Great news & well deserved. Pleased that reports he was leaving the club were wide of the mark. I think Thommo leaving made it easier to give Donawa a new deal.

Superb news - probably our most valuable asset, and a great player to watch too!

Agreed. No disrespect to Thommo but would be hard to se him keeping Donawa out of the right side attacking role next season.

Don't forget the first of last night's signings. Alun Armstrong signing on for another 3 years. I'm sure the fact he was able to tell players he was commited to the club must have been a factor in them re-signing. We seem to be well on the way to securing the core of our team s aborted season, now we can press on and line up,a few new faces.

Of course the magnificent BTB must also have been a big factor, particularly for Armstrong.

Great news yesterday getting:

1) The clubs’ most valuable player contracted for next season.
2) The clubs’ best performer from last season contracted for next season.

Also, great news re. Alun signing a new contract. Offers some stability for both Alun & the club. If he continues similar to what he achieved over the last couple of seasons with us & Blyth then clubs further up will be looking at him.

Wheatley a big one for me. Still very young so has potential sell-on value to the club. Hatfield gets a lot of the praise (and rightly so), but when Wheatley returned to fitness last season our form really picked up if I remember correctly.

At the very least we would be due compensation for Wheatley as he under the age of 24.

I’d like to avoid that completely though!

I would imagine most are 1 year + 1 year option in favour of the club.

And you’ve signed one of our bench players (no disrespect Thommo) on more money!
How that work.....

We'd have finished 7-9th, a point or two behind Spendy. We had huge injury problems throughout and the core squad is more than capable of finishing 7th-9th next season.

Could we do with a couple of better players? Say a better keeper? A commanding centre back? A goal scoring forward not even as good as Taylor? Of course we could do with that to improve the squad. And we'll try and sign those additions, perhaps with the money saved on Thompson, Trotman and Ainge's wages - only one of those three played more than 3 matches for us last season.

But it's nonsense to laugh at us tying down other current players for next season.
