The bit which jumped out at me...this is paraphrasing but

"£1m invested in infrastructure projects which has mostly been spent on players to be competitive"

So not spent on infrastructure then at all.

Raises the question 'Not spent on infrastructure by whom?'. Was the money given over to the board but misused, or did he spend it on players instead of the infrastructure himself?

Murphy's reported response to allegations of unsettled commitments was "In relation to the terms of the small outstanding invoice and contributions for some players, I am seeking clarification that the government’s CJRS (Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme) has already paid the players since March 24". This suggests to me that his contributions were being used to support the playing budget with his knowledge and consent.

Sounds to me like Murphy's involvement was a bit of a hijack attempt. He came on board saying all the right things for a fan owned club, £1m for revenue generative infrastructure that would help to support them into the future, not trying to take equity too early and rattle any cages.

He got in there and realised that things behind the scenes are pretty messy moneywise and needed a bit of support on the playing and trading side. So those initial funds began to be diverted into the playing side, first to sure it up financially, then starting the dangle the carrot of essentially funding players like Asante etc, players who you need to get out of this division. Trying to get them to a point where he could say 'if you don't have my funding then you can't have these 4-5 players who are going to get you out of this division". At which point he made his grab for power with some grand promises of off field development and funding back to the Football League for which he needed complete control.

Does raise the interesting questions of what they can now afford without this support and whether Morley and Johnson will be able to keep most of that squad together and build upon it.

Some interesting developments for the league next year whenever it begins: financial changes at Chester might mean they're not as strong, Bower and Boshell back at BPA from the start of the season will likely mean they're stronger, Hereford surely can't miss spend as badly as they did last summer, Alfreton owner seems to continue to be scaling back his investment.

It's very telling that when the board were considering Murphy's bid they first wanted to see a detailed 3-year plan for the club and had to ask for assurances that money he had promised the club from last season and for next season would be paid in full. Looks like he hasn't fulfilled either of these.

Read this in last Sunday's non league paper. To be honest any bloke continuing to invest large sums of money Into a club will at least expect a stake in it, cant blame him for that. I have been wondering lately has the fan owned model lost a bit momentum? I know portsmouth and wycombe are two clubs that have surrendered full ownership recently, no hostile takeovers, simply agreed by fans

I wish you'd lose momentum and fuck off.

Have you ever noticed the quantity of clubs, with supposedly wealthy backers, enter administration or worse? Or has that flown over your head?

Furthermore, if you're going to troll, learn to type properly.

Now, as ghost said, fuck off.

The only chips here are to go with your phishing. As you can plainly see our fan owned model has clearly "lost momentum". In a time when the whole country is in the midst of crisis we've raised £95,000 of a £100,000 target with a week to go. Crawl back to whence you came and take your sad little troll mates with you.

Now there is a thought football clubs entirely funded by their members / supporters and not in the interests of profit and shareholder returns.

Doesn't sound too bad does it?

Nah, much better to flog it off to some dodgy ex-Morecambe investor and an unknown businessman from Hong Kong.

That’s the Gateshead way. Shildonlad was ironically one of Cala and Varghese’s biggest cheerleaders. To the point where he was railing against the National League because they wouldn’t hand over tens of thousands of pounds to Cala.

And that turned out so well. Far better than having hundreds of committed fans investing for the good of the club and not for profit, don’t you think.

There’s also sweet irony in shildonlad trying to troll us about fan ownership, using a thread where Chester have opted to retain fan ownership, rejecting a single benefactor model.

Sadly his pea-sized brain hasn’t picked up on that yet.

Further irony is added to his comments by the fact that the supporters group Gateshead Soul owns 20% of Gateshead FC, provides matchday volunteers and has just launched a boost the budget scheme.

Not sure if theres a witch hunt against me or gateshead fc but Where am i having a Go at darlington, with the boost the budget doing well clearly fan ownership is still working. Was more pointing out how its fell out of favour at SOME clubs most notably wycombe and portsmouth, was it a good move the fans of them selling, who knows, time will tell but at least it was the fans choice to sell to whoever. Obviously chester dont think its right and thats there choice, but im confident had the fans owned a stake in gateshead 2 year ago they would sure have tried to prevent cala and co from taking over. Before darlogramps whoever he is takes another pot shot at me Yes i defended cala and co along with a few others until the s*** really hit the fan around February last year. Things went right on the pitch the 1st few month and that sort of masked the wider issues off the pitch for many.

Cala was clearly a wrong ‘un. Ask anyone at Morecambe about that. But what you’ve now said is Gateshead fans were willing to ignore that, in fact even support Cala and Varghese, so long as the team did well on the pitch.

With that, I’d suggest you’re in no position to discuss the merits of any form of club ownership.

Now kindly go and get some grammar lessons, you tedious, little troll.

I dont care for your tone. what could gateshead fans do? They never Owned a stake in the club or had a seat on the board when it was sold And at the time it was only speculation about cala. Alarm bells rang when fans of clubs with beef against gateshead did warn them but as i say what could the fans do apart from back watson and later clark and the lads who could hardly be blamed for the s*** off the field

I don’t care for your grammar and I couldn’t care less what a halfwit like you thinks of my tone. You rock up on this board trying to s***-stir, then get defensive when people give you some back.

No one had “beef” with Gateshead, you’ve made that up. It’s a figment of your imagination. Either that or you’re so paranoid you think any sort of criticism is an agenda.

What could Gateshead fans do? Not welcome an obvious charlatan like Cala into the club. Cala was well-known to be an incompetent, dodgy weirdo. His time at Morecambe would tell you that. And those stories weren’t exactly secret. 5 minutes with any sort of search engine would be enough. It certainly wasn’t “speculation”. You’ve made that up. There are loads of stories from his time at Morecambe, which were out there well before he tried taking over at Gateshead.

And even if it was speculation, would you not ask questions? Dig a little. Speak to previous clubs he’d been involved with.

Other things you could do - walk out, refuse to buy season tickets or merchandise. Protest. Make it clear a moron like Cala wasn’t welcome. Certainly not cheerlead for him, like you’ve admitted you did.

Making feelings known was what a good proportion of Darlo fans did when Raj Singh tried to get back involved. And do you know what? It worked.

And as I say, given you welcomed a charlatan like Cala with open arms, you’re in no position to comments about the merits of club ownership.

For your information it was not 100% clear of calas exact involvement when the club was 1st taken over, yea most were fully aware of his past but initially people thought he was just some sort of general manager guy working behind the scenes which proved not to be the case as time went on. So we should have all boycotted shall we, that would have done a well liked manager and squad of largely local hard working players alot of good. In the end the players, management and Backroom staff hated Cala as much as the fans. George reynolds was welcome at darlo when he 1st came, never went really sour until a couple of year later
