Re: Peter Madden RIP
Very sad news, I started watching Darlo in 1974, so just about the first manager of Darlo that I remember. Condolences to his family at this sad time.

Re: Peter Madden RIP
He wasn't the worst manager we've had & not the best but as he lasted over 3 years I wonder how many mangers following him lasted longer than Madden. I'm assuming Hodgson & Gray did, but not even Little, Penney or Knowles lasted that long.
Re: Peter Madden RIP
I'm sure Cyril Knowles was appointed in the summer of 1983 and was with the club for three and a half years finally getting sacked in the middle of the 1986-87 season. I think two of our players rebelled against him at the time claiming he had lost the dressing roomDarlo_Pete wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 4:51 pmHe wasn't the worst manager we've had & not the best but as he lasted over 3 years I wonder how many mangers following him lasted longer than Madden. Cyril Knowles was manager from July 1983 until March 1987. He was replaced by a player, Paul Ward if I remember and then David Booth was appointed for the following season.

Ok thanks for that, good to hear that Cyril lasted nearly 4 years. I remember when Paul Ward took over we were already on our way back down to Division Four & we had an away league game at Ayresome Park who were going back up to Division One. We weren't given a chance of getting anything, but came away with a 2-2 draw. Paul was player-manager & I think he may have scored as well.

Billy Elliott was manager from June 1979 to June 1983. What's even more impressive was that for a large chunk of this time he did the job without an assistant when George Herd was let go to save money.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 4:51 pmHe wasn't the worst manager we've had & not the best but as he lasted over 3 years I wonder how many mangers following him lasted longer than Madden. Cheers for that Robbo, I knew we drew the game & there weren't many Darlo fans at the game. We were sat for protection in the seats behind the goal.
