Gabbiadini for me scored 49 times in just 84 league appearances. A strike rate of around 58% if my maths is correct. Many of his goals were crackers as well and you knew if he could get the ball in the final third a goal was possible. He would score 50+ a season at our level.

The players actual prime or his 'prime' with us?

I'd say Gabbiadini but there are quite a few who if they had been playing for us in their prime you would have to think would have been incredible.

Torn between Abbott and Gabbiadini. Wish we had seen more the former.

Gotta be a fully fit, in his prime Gabbiadini, although a fully fit, in his prime Andy Collett would improve the team no end too.

(I say in his prime Gabbiadini, obviously, his prime was at Sunderland and Derby, but I mean to the best level he played at for us. Collett, on the other hand, had his best days with us)

Selected my top team of the last 25 years. I can go back a lot further but to keep it reasonably recent for the more youthful fans here goes. Only players who were actually contracted to us no loanees included. That might make an interesting thread on its own.

Stockdale

Austin. DeVos. Burn. Heckingbottom

Purdie. Atkinson. Gray. Wainwright

Abbott. Gabbiadini

Amazed Dan Burn gets in for his time with us. Yes he showed some promise but strewth he was a rough diamond!!!
Foster, Liddle or Miller would be ahead of him in my team for the time they spent with us.

Would be interested to see your favourite side from your first 5 seasons following Darlo.

Good to see Brian Conlon and Alan Sproates. Getting a mention - great Quakers both. I'd pick a defender and the original Joe Jacques was as good as anyone we've had, of a more recent vintage Phil Lloyd

Dale Hopson on the move from Whitby. Gets a load of fails from midfield worth an look in my opinion always rated him.
Help get the club back to Darlo by helping to spread the word about the "Back to Darlo!" fund. The image on the right will be constantly updated with the latest total so please feel free to use the image link below the thermometer on your own signatures, blogs, websites, etc.Image

I'm amazed nobody to date has suggested Colin Sinclair he held some absolutely appalling Darlington sides together in the early to mid 1970s.

I don't get this thing with Gray, I don't remember him as being that good and he never scored a single goal.

Also Heaney, what a great player he was.

Can't believe no one has mentioned David Currie on par if not better than Gabas

I'd have even had Shelton Martis and Joey Hutchinson ahead of Burn as well...

But yes Liddle / Foster top of the pile for me and Liddle edges it because of who he is.

Some good shouts and agree Alan Walsh and Frank Gray were class players. Both were over 25 years ago which was my timescale but if you want a great keeper from the past would have to be Mark Prudhoe for me.

Can't list Alan Sproates without mentioning his midfield partner Yogi.
The tough tackling, some say murderous tackling Ray Yeoman, allowed Sproates more cultured approach to flourish.
