Isle of Man to join English pyramid?

Perhaps we will play them again one day.
Was anyone else there when we played IOM in a pre-season friendly in Ramsey in 2002?

Didn't we play in a pre-season tournament on the Isle of Man in the 90's?
Come on Darlo!

Not sure if this is practical as IOM have some strange rules, like UK citizens need a valid work permit to do a job over there. Would playing league fixtures count as a job? If you think King's Lynn is a b***** to get to, try Peel or Ramsey!

I went on the two Isle of Man tours I went and watched the isle of man best Burnley 1-0 in 2000 it was their first ever victory over a football league club they celebrated like they had just won the world cup.I also recall a couple of Rochdale supporters telling me that they had been sat drinking with Barry conlon in a local night club until 4am in the morning.for the record that was not on a match day though.

The Channel Islands support a professional Rugby Club in the English Leagues, and that's a lot further to get to than IOM.
For it to work I'm assuming the IOM would have to pay the ferry / flight costs for visiting teams. It's about 3 hours on the seacat from Liverpool or a 20 minutes flight from Speke.
The main stadium in Douglas is miles better than anything in the NW Counties League (their target point for entry) and better than most in the National League North.
The League scene in the IOM is very basic. Teams in the top league often don't have floodlights so kick off at 2pm. Ramsey, where we played in 2002, yo-yo between the top league and the second division and I would estimate their crowds are 50-100. The ground is better than some we played at in the Northern League though. Ramsey FC's main income source is turning the pitch into a campsite for the TT!
I spend about 6 weeks a year in Ramsey by the way, hence the information.

Re: Isle of Man to join English pyramid?
Work permit not needed for a single day's work in a year on IoM. So shouldn't be a problem
Also their home games will be at the Bowl in Douglas, a mile or so from Ferry terminal and on bus route to or from the airport
Finally, I am not sure if they will be allowed to play FA Cup or Vase games at home. The FA have flip flopped on this, but last I knew both Jersey & Guernsy were not playing FA Cup ties at their home venues because of the FA rules

Yep that is the understanding I think.wizardofos wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 6:29 pmFor it to work I'm assuming the IOM would have to pay the ferry / flight costs for visiting teams. It's about 3 hours on the seacat from Liverpool or a 20 minutes flight from Speke.
I think there are flights from Manchester and Blackpool to the IOM also.

I don't think Blackpool has a commercial airport any longer but I may be wrong?lo36789 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 10:21 pmYep that is the understanding I think.wizardofos wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 6:29 pmFor it to work I'm assuming the IOM would have to pay the ferry / flight costs for visiting teams. Google says it closed in 2014, so not an option I'm afraid.

Re: Isle of Man to join English pyramid?
I'd quite fancy an away day at the IOM, although it would take all day to get there if you didn't fly.

Lol oh dear guess the Manx population don't have that many options left then!
