It’s a nominal sum by the time it reaches NLN clubs. Certainly welcome cashflow but definitely not a lottery win.

I see on Look North the chairman of South Shields was saying that they would take legal action against the National league on them being denied promotion & that if they don't get promoted it would cost them between £400K & £500k.

Understandable frustration from him but I question his financial calculations. Wage costs and travel costs would rise if they were promoted and I doubt sponsorship and gate receipts would improve dramatically.
This is a time for cool heads and an appreciation of the bigger picture. 15000 people already dead and sadly many others will follow. Sympathy for bleating football club owners in short supply. Very much doubt he will have a leg to stand on if he tried to take legal action and hope he is persuaded not to try.

South Shields obviously odds on for promotion but mathematically could still have finished 2nd behind FC United.A massive gamble anyway to have a number of staff and players on full time contracts at NPL level so that's the choice the owner has made and has to accept the decision and move on

Why would they take action against the NL? It's the FA they would need to sue as they made the decision. The FA council is made up of over 200 members who all had a vote. The NL made up one vote.

This is Pete doing that thing where he gets something deliberately wrong to see if it gets picked up on.

He needs something to amuse himself in the long lockdown days.

I should have known it being Pete. He was doing it well before the lockdown :)

I did read something the other day where various interested parties (clubs in the promotion frame) had sought out the opinion of a top lawyer who specialises in sporting legal matters. He was suggesting that the courts are usually reluctant to interfere in the decisions made by sports governing bodies but there could be a way in if the FA treat the PL / EFL different to the non-league game. A glimmer of hope perhaps for South Shields and Stockton but to name a few.

To be fair, I saw that piece and the National League was mentioned though I can’t remember if it was by the Shields chairman or the guy doing the interview because I thought at the time ‘what’s he talking about’.

Sorry I was mistaken I thought it was a decision by the NL, didn't realise it was the FA.
