Kings Lynn;
No game tonight;

York;
No game tonight; York benefited from Brackley’s loss, they remain seven points in front, Brackley now have only two games in hand.

Brackley;
Boston 1-0 Brackley; Brackley outperformed Boston for most of this game, but goalkeeping saves and clearances off the line prevented them from scoring. They went down to a single 86th min goal. Brackley look to return to goalscoring form at home to Guiseley on Saturday.

Chester;
No game tonight; Chester host in form Darlington on Saturday.

Boston;
Boston 1-0 Brackley; Boston were the second best team tonight, surviving with solid defensive work and good goalkeeping, their reward was a single goal in the 86th min to win the game 1-0. Boston are now two points behind Brackley for third place.

Darlington;
Guiseley 1-2 Darlington; Darlington won their 7th win in 8 league games by beating Guiseley 2-1 and leapfrogging them into 6th place. The Quakers got off to a great start scoring from the penalty after 5 mins from Adam Campbell. Although Guiseley equalised 7 mins later, it was ex Guiseley player Will Hatfield who scored the winning goal after 30 mins with a 30 yard shot. Darlington withheld a lot of Guiseley pressure in the second half to hold onto the win. Now for a big game on Saturday at fourth place Chester.

Guiseley;
Guiseley 1-2 Darlington; Guiseley slipped to 7th place after a 1-2 home loss to promotion competing rivals Darlington. Although they fell behind after 5 mins, Guiseley were level after 12 mins but fell behind again after 30 mins. Gateshead;
Leamington 0-0 Gateshead; Gateshead rose one place to 8th with a 0-0 draw at Leamington. Gateshead were the better team in the first 30 mins but were unable to score. The rest of the game was more even, the result a goalless draw.

Comments

Tonight, Darlington emerged as one of six teams to be promotion contenders, creating a gap over the next six promotion pretenders.
Their seven wins in eight games is the best of the playoff chasing teams, it has been great to see their home record, second best in the league in points accrued (29), trailing only Kings Lynn (36), now they are winning away, and beating Top 12 teams York and Guiseley in the last 30 days to build confidence in the teams and the fans. The goal difference is now back to 0, so continued good form can improve that number.
If this momentum can be maintained, weathering the injuries, especially in the back four, a playoff place is within Darlington’s grasp.

Going for the league championship.

02. York............ 27.. 7 4 2.. 8 4 .2. 40 17. 23.. 53

The playoff contenders, Darlington has risen into this group. If these four teams remain consistent, the teams below have to outperform them to push any of them out of a playoff place.

The playoff pretenders, Gateshead have performed the best results wise recently, Altrincham’s little run has stopped, Guiseley are inconsistent, the away record is good, but 6 home losses is holding them back, Spennymoor and especially Farsley and Southport are heading in the wrong direction.

12. Southport..... 26.. 7 2 5.. 4 2 .6. 32 32. ..0.. 37

The inconsistents, teams that look too strong to be relegated, but too inconsistent to move towards the playoff chasing group.

Interesting to see we’ve now won 4 away from home. 3 of those wins coming in the last 4 away games against York, Blyth and Guiseley. Whisper it quietly but we may have just turned a corner with our away performances. It doesn’t get any easier this Saturday mind.

Chester are my son-in-laws local team. He is none to happy with their current performance and commitment and reckons they will not make the play-offs. If that thought is in their squad's minds...

Another interesting stat is that the last 8 games have pulled in as many points (21) as our first 18 games. The early season injury crisis clearly had an effect on us getting into our stride, and whilst worrying that we now appear to be heading into another injury hit period, it does feel that the confidence created by those last 8 results will be better able to carry the team through.

It can also be hoped that they will have some doubts about playing a side that beat them quite convincingly at BM. If we can start the game on Saturday as we did at home we would have a very good chance of winning the psychological battle and hopefully coming back with at least a point.

Saturday will be tough, as we've played midweek, so we'll probably be a bit tired, against a rested team. I'd be delighted with a draw.

It’s the words between the commas that irritate me.
