Spennymoor game off

Post by poppyfield » Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:41 pm

Spennymoor Town's game with @altrinchamfc has been postponed following a pitch inspection from the match referee.

Work is almost complete on a completely new playing surface, including a sprinkler system and specialist drainage, which is football league standard.

Unbelievable when you consider the amount of work they did on the pitch pre season.
Help get the club back to Darlo by helping to spread the word about the "Back to Darlo!" fund. The image on the right will be constantly updated with the latest total so please feel free to use the image link below the thermometer on your own signatures, blogs, websites, etc.Image

Not their fault. Never has been and never will be.

Apparently some unsavoury Darlo fans broke in and leaned on a water pipe. Of course it snapped and flooded the pitch. Those horrible Darlo fans really have it in for poor old Spenny.

you could have understood if it was last night as the rain was bad, but since last night the rain has gone - so it would have been easy to have make a yes or no decision this morning.

They will have some excuse ready and play the little innocent card just like fence gate.Did they not look at the weather forecast for god's sake.Hope Altrincham bill them for wasted travelling expenses

Apparently the Alty team coach had arrived so they'll have to be reimbursed, right? Still, won't be a problem with all that commercial/sponsorship revenue Spenny bring in.

Getting loads of stick on the Twitters.

I've been in the area today and there has been a lot of rain this afternoon until around 4.30. There was torrents of water flowing down Paige bank.

Is there a worse team in this league at pre-match organisation than Spennymoor Town?

According to a statement on their website at least uncle Brad has apparently agreed to pay for the Altrincham supporters coach and offered them complimentary refreshments. I know I would be totally gutted if Boston United called the game off so late in a couple of weeks time.

Yes fair point biccynana I wonder how many of them will want to travel all the way up here from the north west for a second time on a Tuesday night.

It’s almost like they don’t think the normal rules apply to them. Arrogance once again.

That's no good for the fans that have travelled this evening. Have to admit I was out in the rain today & it was pretty heavy, but I'd have thought there near FL standard pitch wouldn't have had any trouble coping with it.

Just checked all 3 National North League fixtures were postponed this evening with water logged pitches.

Fixture backlog starting to build for a few rival teams so may come down to squad size & quality for the run in, which is rapidly approaching.

Given the amount of rain that had fallen it would have been prudent to get a local ref to have a look at the pitch in good time. They didn't and allowed fans and players to travel, even issuing assurances that everything was OK.Of course, once the ref deemed areas of the pitch unfit, they immediately switched the blame onto his shoulders, questioning his professional judgement.

Indeed. Their pre-match organisation may be a shambles, but their ability to deflect any sort of blame is second to none.

When this used to happen at Feethams it did my head in, but that was over 20 years ago and communications, weather forecasting and pitches themselves are so much better now.

Down with this sort of thing!

What ever you do, if the conditions change someone is in for a hiding.. remember when the Solihull game was postponed people were on here having a right good moan.

"People on here"? It was only Darlopete! - I've just reread the thread.

As a separate point, the Solihull postponement turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we turned up fresh V York, got a great result, and this subsequently set us up for our good Xmas run.

I think everyone understood *why* we called off the Solihull game when we did - even though in reality it would’ve been fine by the evening of the game - we didn’t want to take the chance, and it’s lousy to do that to other fans.

Spennymoor, for all the money thrown at them, still operate like a northern league side.

I know who it was, I was making the point that it is easy to criticise other teams for decisions made, or not made.
The same guy has also criticised their pitch... I was at the game and was very impressed by the quality of the green. (the slope is a different thing)..
You get a bit fed up with some of the rubbish chucked out on here because of what Spendy have got..Well I envy them in a lot of ways.. They have their own ground for a start, all the money they make through their beer sales and their corporate side feeds into their finances. (not a landlords)
On saying that, after our visit there on New years day, I will not be going back there..They took the p~~~ as far as I was concerned.

The referee decided to call the game off.

The issue I'd have with Spenny was the twitter post saying they weren't expecting any issues. This meant fans will have travelled.

Also, did they not inspect the part of the pitch that had an issue. It did look poor and that area needs sorting. So they should never have made this statement

Couple of posts from alty fan who was at the ground
I’m an ALTY fan who made the long Tuesday trip. Away coach and own travel supporters.Must say brilliant away support.
I’m fuming, the pitch was in my opinion playable. Both teams were happy with it
God help you if your pitch isn’t premier ship standard if you get this ref. Didn’t let the pitch do it’s work.
I guess the ref must have been totally embarrassed when taking his pictures at 1900, after he had
Had his tea.
No standing water and the ball was running well..
----
John Stamp , as an ALTY fan, in my and everybody else but the officials, the pitch was perfect.

There's a video on twitter which shows the ball was not running well in part of the pitch, so to describe it as 'perfect' is deluded.

I posted that, as he was a alty fan at the ground, instead of all the s*** from darlo fans on this forum who were not at the ground.
The ref got it badly wrong, i was in the ground and the pitch looked perfect, only the ref thought otherwise, it's a disgrace that ref called it off
