Darlington V Walsall Match Thread

Thought I would get this thread going as we approach our biggest home game for many years, most of the concerns of how the squad has been depleted by injuries, international duties and the return of O'Neill to Boro have been talked about and analysed to the point of exhaustion, and of the poor showing at Brackley, so as Thompson said in his post match interview a line has to be drawn under that match and we move on.
So to Wednesday, hopefully we will have Liddle fit enough to play or make the bench, Hedley returns after suspension, and Galbraith's knock will not stop him playing.
I would think the line up (barring any injuries) will be the same as for the Walsall game, not sure what tactics AA will use, clearly at Walsall we were all over them for the first 25 minuets until they made the double substitution , then the game changed.
Really looking forward to this I just hope we can give a good account of ourselves on the pitch, and just as importantly not bring the club into disrepute by the actions of a few who might think it helps to throw flares invade the pitch etc.
Squad;
Elliott,
Galbraith, (hopefully not injured)
Watson,
Laing,
Hatfield,
Wheatley,
Holness,
Rivers,
Campbell,
Thompson,
Connell,
Storey,
Hedley
Liddle.............still injured?
Youth players; Armstrong Hurworth Johnson. (am assuming Hurworth and Johnson are eligible)

One thing I do know about Wednesday night is the 50/50 is going to be massive , could break the Β£1000 barrier. :D

Bloody ell, 14 available senior players, two of them keepers and two of them with injury concerns. That's what you call up against it.

I think we might just be able to get 11 men on the pitch at the start of the game, which would be quite an achievement.

If fully fit Liddle should play as he has been excellent this season. We need our strongest team from the start and he also gives us more going forward. Not the time to hold back, this is the big one!

Desperately missed O'Neill, and poor balls in from set pieces - fantastic effort, but lacking that bit of quality where it mattered.

But just about held our own againast a full time team two divisions higher, so nothing to be ashamed of.

Thought the ref had a decent game, and of the two assistants, thought Natalie was the prettier, but then again I' not keen on beards.

Got to go again on Saturday and colect a few more pounds fotr the kiity.

Team should be proud of their efforts. They had one effort on target all night and that was the goal. We looked far better on the ball than they did and played much better football.

The negative...to a man our final delivery was absolutely pants.

If we can play like that and get bloomin' O'Neill back or another striker we can push on in the league this season and hopefully use some of the money next year to have a proper go at the playoffs.

Lads did themselves proud, but effort alone not enough & we did not have players on the bench who could alter the game. Really needed someone to lead the line & hold up the ball.

Good first half poorer second half however they are full time and it does make a difference. Personally not disappointed it was very good atmosphere in hospitality al credit ti Craig Morley and his team. Also someone mentioned DJ mentioned on BT Sports we had earned Β£100k from cup run which is massive for our club with DJ saying we won’t have any debt for this financial year I reckon we could have Β£80k ish to spend.

We just ran out of steam and a combination of poor delivery into the box and complete lack of attacking options meant we never looked like scoring in the second half. Best side won it in second half but we weren't disgraced and put plenty of effort in. Rivers caused them lots of problems in the first half but was kept quiet in the second half. Neither keeper really had a lot to do in what was overall quite an even match, which is an achievement in itself against a League side.

For me Hatfield was MOTM ahead of Thommo. Fitness told in the end & lack of options on the bench also came home to roost.

We had a cup run. Something we have dreamed about for years. Only behind to a league two club late in both games. Proud of all the lads, gave their all. However, we desperately need a striker.

I was not disappointed with anyone in a Darlo shirt tonight but if I had to pick one player as the most outstanding performer tonight it would be Michael Liddle. He is a class act at full back.
