Just back from Walsall ~ Brief Report

Post by DARLODAH » Sat Nov 09, 2019 7:49 pm

What a match!
Away support was brilliant!
Not sure how many, but must have been close to 1000. Now confirmed as 1229
Not sure whether to be pleased or disappointed.
Superb effort by the lads.

1st 25 minutes we were by far the better team.
They hit the post and missed some straightforward chances...the longer the 1st half went on.

2nd half we started brilliantly.
Great save from their keeper from Wheatley's shot, pushing the ball onto the post.

Deliberate foul on the edge of the box as Hatfield prepared to score, was only punished with a yellow card.

2 daft goals for Walsall, but without Liam Connell's save at Tamworth we wouldn't have got to Walsall.
Liam will be our hero in the penalty shoot out...if Walsall survive that far!

What a moment when the equaliser went in !

Superb game and fantastic support. Non stop effort from all of the lads.
Wrap Thommo up in cotton wool until the replay.

Looking at the other replays....we should be on TV !

Support was brilliant, players superb. One of best days out for a long time. Let’s hope we get a decent gate for the replay.

There are still a bunch of games to go tomorrow which could end up in replays is the only thing.

Yellow card was correct ultimately as there was a covering defender in the direction where Hatfield was heading. Not that is mattered that lad was sent off moments later anyway and we were still 1-0 up when he was sent off.

If anything the red card seemed to give them a brief lift so if it had happened earlier who knows what the outcome would have been.

Fantastic day out & what superb support. Apparently Walsall had been told by us that we'd bring between 700 & 800, well there was nearly double there. Just looked on the BBC website & the Darlo highlights was the second longest after Dulwich v the sheep shaggers. It also said that possession was 51/49 in favour of Walsall, so we definitely deserved that late late equaliser. When Walsall went 2-1 up I turned to my devastated son, 'don't worry son we'll get one more chance'!!!!

Watching the BBC highlights and listening to the BBC reports, they were blaming Connell for both goals - I think he was due an off day, as he has been phenomenal since he has been with us. The biggest thing for me is the team spirit we had - that goes a long way in football.

Can’t argue with the Connell comment but the guy has done enough in previous games to earn himself a couple of dodgy moments.
