Great to have Connell in the fold for the game. Definitely a confidence booster after losing O'Neill. Think the players have got it right in their interviews. Nothing to fear, go down there stay in the game, if its 0-0 after 25 or 30 mins their fans and players will start getting more and more tense and that's when our chances will come.

Losing O'Neill changes the dynamic of our front 3 a bit, will be interesting to see how we make the ball stick up front and whether this will mean Campbell will go back through the centre or if Thommo will come in as a direct swap. It will give us a very mobile front 3 which we'll have to use to our advantage.

What ever happens, it's been a great cup run, hope we give them a good game and 800+ Darlo fans are there to show the players and management our appreciation.

What chances of their pitch being waterlogged?

Must admit the thought had crossed my mind when I’ve read about the flooding in the north midlands this morning. I’m travelling down this evening so I’m in the lap of the gods :silent:

Looking at the weather maps it looks as though it should be pretty dry today with a few possible showers this evening but there’s a hell of a band of rain sweeping in from the West from noon tomorrow. I can’t see there being too much of a risk (their pitch is very good) but it’s a good job they’ve got proper stands cos it’s going to be very wet.

Will a sodden pitch help or hinder us?

Probably neither Pete but they are at home and will know how their pitch plays when wet.

Hope it’s not as wet as the Friday night Wembley play off match

I tend to agree with you. Does anybody know how much Walsall are charging for tomorrow's game, as quite often clubs reduce ticket prices for an early round of an FA cup tie?

Hope the jinx of AA winning the Manager of the Month doesn't strike us now. Given our injury hit squad & internationalists being unavailable, AA deserved the accolade. Now cap it by pulling off a cup upset or at least a replay back at BM.

On bet365 Luke Trotman is 22/1 to score an “anytime goal”. 66/1 to score first or last goal.

Any takers?

AA just been on Football Focus talking to Clem about our tie at Walsall. Both got soaked during Thursday night's training. So the Beeb are taking a bit of notice.

Just had a read of Walsall's forum, it's fair to say they're a little bit nervous. Really we have nothing to lose here - they *should* comfortably beat us, but this is the cup, we have players who have played at L2 level and we're definitely a better side than our league position suggests.

It's also good to read the views from proper fans of a proper club, who in the main seem knowledgeable and very respectful of Darlington FC. Like chalk and cheese compared the disrespect and disdain shown to us by some of the bitter, petty, know nowt, tinpot, piss ant, pitchfork waving wankers who we've *sometimes* had to put up with, in our long climb back up the leagues.

Playing them today gives us a little reminder of where we used to be, and where one day we could maybe be again.

Back to the match, regardless of form we do need to remember that there is a gulf in class between L2 and NLN, so my head says a straightforward 2-0 win for Walsall. My heart is betting on the magic of the cup and a 2-1 away win.

Have the same feeling about which way this will go. Watching last night's game I thought Carlisle weren't all that but just had that bit extra quality in attack. The home side looked just as good as their opponents for long periods, which reinforces the point that there isn't often that much difference between the leagues. But in the critical element of finishing the L2 side just had that bit extra. If Darlo can get their attack together we may get the result but I do fear that being without O'Neill will compromise the attack and we will fall victim to not taking our chances. But a bit of Thommo magic and the lure of hitting the 100 mark, might just magic a result.

Yep you never know!

Also I suspect that the quality of the NLS isn't quite as high as the NLN, so hopefully the gulf between the 2 teams today may be slightly narrower than it was between Dulwich and Carlisle.

As an aside, someone on the Walsall forum claims that the Bescot costs them 500k p.a in rent! WTF?

The Guardian's live clockwatch has promoted us
Darlington of the National League are ahead at Walsall. A (relative) giant-killing on the cards?
