Darlington V Boston
Re: Darlington V Boston
When Spin is lecturing us on footy finances (and how to do it properly and sustainably) at this level, he is clearly implying that clubs like Spendy show the way. Of course the truth is that the main sponsor of Spendy is Great Annual Savings and in fact several of the board members/officials of Spendy also work for Great Annual Savings and we all know who the CEO and chairman of that company is. The two entities are very closely bound together.
Sure Spendy have sponsorship/commercial activities and do OK at it but they can spend massively on the ground and a big playing budget due to the commitment of a wealthy individual who has chosen to plough lots of money into the club. That's fair enough and they are lucky to have him but to imply it's all just down to following a great commercial model is ridiculous. If the Groves cushion was withdrawn the club wouldn't drive itself and forge forward with a sustainable future. It would hit the buffers big time unless the spending was hugely reduced with all the consequences of that.

Thought that was a good battling win today thoroughly deserved everyone playing there part particulally o`neill who just gets better
Re: Darlington V Boston
Fantastic display by O'Neill who had their defenders panicking every time he was on the ball. He was superb attacking them with the ball at his feet and seemed to relish the physical battle too.
We deserved the win and dug in well when we needed to second half. We were also denied a stonewall penalty when Campbell was bundled over from behind when bearing down on goal in the first half.

I thought our goalkeeper had a dodgy game letting in a goal

On a serious note Connell definitely gives the defence more confidence. He comes for through balls very well and commands his area on crosses. I’m not saying Elliott is a poor keeper and if he’s been playing through an injury, that has to be factored in, but Connell so far looks to be quite a big step up in quality.

For anyone who has today's programme, is the match ball sponsor listed, and if so who was it?

Good crowd today, over 1,500
Re: Darlington V Boston
The town has got a huge stadium already which the council are already trying to make sustainable. There’s no chance we’d get anotherVodka_Vic wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 9:56 amBoston is my local club and their ground is huge with masses of advertising space. Jakemans sponsor the stadium and the Co-operative has a significant sponsorship with one of the stands.
Their new ground is on the edge of town and is part of a massive new project, with new houses and a retail park. Basically, like what is happening with a number of new projects, particularly retail parks, the council grants agreement if something is built to benefit the local community, in this case a football stadium.
This is where we have missed out. If we had a council that supported us we could have asked for something to be contributed to the huge new 'Viilage' off Haughton Road. But this is Darlo and things always are done differently.

Recruitrite sponsored the game today.Earl_Lee_Dawes wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:16 pmFor anyone who has today's programme, is the match ball sponsor listed, and if so who was it?

Thanks Loan Star, does it say who sponsored the ball?

Who was talking about Spennymoor? Certainly not meLoidLucan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:01 amWhen Spin is lecturing us on footy finances (and how to do it properly and sustainably) at this level, he is clearly implying that clubs like Spendy show the way. I merely answered the point raised and said some clubs at this level do bring in more commercial income than Darlington therefore rely far lesson fans to boost their budget.
You can carry on asking fans to dig deep each season, or for a more sustainable future, the club need to boost its commercial income ( the only other alternative is selling out to a new owner and losing control of the club...not something acceptable to majority of fans for obvious reasons).
It's hardly rocket science to say the club needs to boost its commercial income to progress.

What bit of 'Darlington v Boston' thread don't you understand?

don't think there was a match ball sponsor.Earl_Lee_Dawes wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:44 pmThanks Loan Star, does it say who sponsored the ball?

Re: Darlington V Boston
OK. Oh, and Boston are a bunch of cloggers. How many fouls did they commit? Even a head butt that wasn't penalised!
Re: Darlington V Boston
Another ref who failed to get a grip right from the start when he failed to book their #4 in 1st 10mns. If he had, that lad would've been off. A couple of uncontrolled lunges were at last penalised, but missed a clear penalty as Cams brought down. Culmination was when AA booked whilst clutching the subs board & he was waiting to see the outcome of our attack. O'Neill deserved MotM but great display of grit & determination from all the team which was missing our internationals & even Thommo on the long injury list. Good crowd who must have been pleased by the way we tried to play football despite a lot of pressure from a big nasty team.

Sounds like after an inconsistent start we're finding a bit of form now and things starting to click at both ends.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: Darlington V Boston
Hope we can extend Connells loan as he certainly makes a difference to our defence, also a big shout for Storey who has done well in the step up in leauges
Re: Darlington V Boston
What penalty, the one where Wheatley dived in, didn’t touch the number 10 and he fell over clutching ankle like it was broken? Then 20 seconds later got up and didn’t even have the good grace to limp.

Cheers loan_star.
Re: Darlington V Boston
Thommo was doing sprints along the touch line before the game. Seemed to be moving well so hopefully not long before he is back.
Re: Darlington V Boston
Who was today's referee and why do the rugby club have such a problem with us was there any need to partition the bar off after today's game it's high time we stopped paying rent until 6pm has each game they make it strikingly obvious they want us out long before then.
Re: Darlington V Boston
Match ball sponsors lance Robson's jag.
Re: Darlington V Boston
Thomo back for next game, ref was Whitaker missed far to much ,should have shown cards much earlier would have calmed Boston down they got away with small things in first ten minutes didn't get penalized and ramped up the rough stuff because he was turning a blind eye, oh sorry both blind eyes he's simply not of a good standard.
Re: Darlington V Boston
I was a bit worried about Martyn Woolford changing the game in the second half, but then he played so deep when he came on. Strange.
Re: Darlington V Boston
The ref really wasn't bad today by Conf North standards. Missed a couple of things but got everything major right, he booked the challenges that needed booking. Boston didn't take the piss with the phsyicality either. They're a rough, hard team but were never downright dirty the way Alfreton appeared to be. Was a good hard battle and we gave more than our fair share back. As fans we can't suddenly turn into drama queens every time we're in a physical game just because our team want to play neat football. The lads showed plenty of stomach for both the neat and tidy stuff and a good hard scrap.

Re: Darlington V Boston
I'm not going to criticise the ref too much, but that decision to penalise Jordan Watson for that superb sliding challenge near our dugout in the second half was a defeat for football.
