I'd expect Donowa and Bascombe to be in, or certainly around the first team given recent contributions... They're long trips as well. Not ideal, but also pretty cool we might have some players playing teams who were at the world cup not so long ago.

It might be a hindrance to team selection but great for finance as we’ll receive money if they get called up and for each game they play.

Squad is already depleted so could do without this. How many internationals to get the matches called off? If it’s three we could get Styche back.

If Atkinson isn't fit, or if he is fit and playing right back because Liddle isn't fit - then he can't replace Bascombe. But Holness can take Bascombe's place. Wheatley should be fit by then, he can take Bascombe's place.

Not a problem - unless we pick up several more injuries between now and the Bermuda internationals.

Same with Donawa, we have Thompson available to take his place, or Lucas Bell.

Not worried at all.

That makes no sense. What's Styche got to do with anything? Please elaborate.

Perhaps we could ask for the games to be postponed, due to International call ups?

First 2 postponements would be Blyth at home and Gloucester away. Do we really want a midweek trip to Gloucester ?

Need to find at least 1 more international as you need a minimum of 3 players on international duty to get games called off

Unless 'OnTheTerraces' means that Styche is available which would not surprise me.
Taken off against Spendymoor and warming the bench the last two games. Fans not impressed by Styches' constant moaning to refs and
by all accounts not getting on well with team mates.
Nicholson on the other hand has had some excellent games.
Sacked the manager after 3 games, with boardroom resignations and unrest, Hereford will not do well this season despite their large budget
Makes you thankful for our board and chief executive.

That’s Hereford who currently sit in the play-off positions, despite everything going on off-the-field.

Early days but it’s nonsense to say definitively they won’t do well this season, when they already are doing well.

Get an injury, get a loan in. International call up, get a loan in. What's the obsession with spending money we don't have?

I doubt we pay for youth loans from our larger neighbours, tbh. That said, we have some youth of our own we can give a go. It depends on AA's judgement i think.

It's not ideal for sure, when we've just lost two players to long term injury. But, it's kind of cool seeing our players going off to play in this. As they are both young lads, it should only help them improve as players. The Azteca will be a bit of a change from a cold Monday night at Curzon Ashton for sure

Exactly. We have a squad, and as Ghost has already pointed out, we have players in that squad ready to come in and fill the gaps that may be created.

Perhaps the frailty of last season's squad, with zero cover in key positions, has left a lasting impression on some of our fans.

I seem to remember a Quakers match deferred because Jason De Vos was playing for Canada. I think he was the one and only international to be registered with us for ages, though it could be said that Asprilla kicked a football for Darlington.

Don't think we've had any games called off for our benefit, but I do remember one called off due to us playing one of the Welsh teams, who at the time didn't play at the same time as Wales. We did have a player on international duty as it happened, not sure who. Might have been Ryan Valentine.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Burgmeier and Styche are of course the more notable internationals of recent years, but I don’t think there were any others in the team at the time. (Certainly not in Styche’s case, maybe Webster overlapped with Burgmeier, my memory is sketchy)

No, Webster was early-arena Hodgy team, Burgmeier was in Penney's second season.

We had Abbott and Burgmeier at the same time - I have a feeling Abbott represented Poland at under-21 level but that was well before he joined us.

I suspect when they do go off for international duty then Alun will go into the loan market - I think he won't at the moment as we can make it work with the players we have but when Bascombe is gone then Atkinson will move into centre mid - I think then we will look to get either a left or right back on a months loan just to sure the squad up. I'm interested to know Aluns thoughts on Wheatley - does he rate him - a few sub appearances ain't going to do the lad much good.

But it is the start point for 1 of the loveliest canals in the country down to Sharpness.
Think it is 28 miles? Dead flat. 8 lift bridges, (all manned), some really pretty greens in the villages and front rooms of houses turned into pubs.
What is not to like?

Ps, shame about Sharpness !!!!
