Official club twitter feed has announced that the friendly against Whitby on Tuesday 30th July has been cancelled. Just the Middlesbrough U23 match then it begins!

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

According to Whitby it was due to injuries.

I would suggest we are nervous of any injuries before the first game of the season. With a rather small squad and to be honest small pool of players we would like to start then it seems sensible, although sure it upset a few.

Happy with that if it means we start the season a week after the boro game injury free.
Trust in the gaffer.

Maybe Atkinson is already a doubt for the start of the season and there are one or two further niggles so it may have made it just too much of a risk so close to the big kick-off the way things have panned out.

Whitby just got hammered by Stockton anyway so maybe they aren’t worth playing at all

No it doesn’t.

If it’s down to injuries, then that was unforseeable at the time the game was arranged.

Friendlies getting cancelled is no big deal.

I'm fairly certain the Whitby match was originally down for this Saturday and then got moved to accommodate the Middlesbrough U23s match.

Shame, would have been nice to rekindle that famous night when we won the league.
