Bit out of order there. English is obviously not his first language and it was clear enough what he was asking.

If you couldn't work out what he was asking

How many do you think we'll take to Bishop?
Do you think we'll win?
What do you think the line up will be?

I think a couple of hundred might pop along. Lots of people have an affinity with HP after we were so successful there so imagine a few will head back.

No idea on result depends what kind of team we play. The preview https://darlingtonfc.co.uk/news/friendl ... ck-off-7pm makes it sound like a bit of a mixed team with the Bermudan trialists and an ex Sunderland youngster being given a run out.

Personally I hope we play 45 mins of the theoretical first 11. Bit more game time and against slightly more limited opposition would be a good opportunity to give the front 4 a chance to grab some goals and get some confidence before the season starts.

Personally I'd like to see a first half of:

-------------------------- Elliott --------------------------
Trotman ---- Laing ----- Galbraith --- Liddle
--------------- Atkinson -- Hatfield ----------------
Rivers ----------- Thompson----------- Holmes
---------------------- Campbell -------------------------

Second half:

-------------------------- Elliott --------------------------
Halliday ---- Laing ----- Galbraith --- Watson
--------------- Holness -- Bascome ----------------
Rivers ----------- Donwara ----------- Bell (3x sun'land trialist)
------------------------- Tyrell -------------------------

No Sign of Thompson or Trotman warming up must be missing this one.

Agreed he looked quality when he came on on the second half and took his second goal superbly. I’d never heard of him but if there’s a chance to sign him up we should give him a go! Holmes also looked excellent!

Solid performance all round. Elliott made some good saves, Laing and Galbraith look a solid pairing. I thought young Holliday and Glover had good games too.

Stand out performers were Holmes and Bell.

Thought Bell played very well while he was on, pacy and tricky. However, I would like to see him when playing against better opposition. No disrespect to Bishop Auckland intended.

Agree with this, although if the Halifax game doesn’t go ahead, we’ve only really got Middlesbrough U23s and Whitby left in pre-season as opposition higher than Northern League.

Armstrong says he wants to bring in three more, finances dependent. Looking at the squad, that’s a winger, a forward and potentially a CM if Glover leaves.

From the highlights it looked like another good run out for the lads, really pleased with how we're shaping up going into the season, there seems to be a clear game plan and method of play which everyone has bought into and we go about our work well, with and without the ball. As others have said I think if nothing else we'll be a good team to watch this season.

Think Campbell looks nifty, his running dragged their CB's all over the place second half. He laid 2 on a plate for his team mates just hope he will get to see some of the same service he laid on for others, a couple of goals in late preseason could see him full of confidence going into the first few games. On the basis I think Thompson, Holmes and Rivers will be worth 25 odd goals in a season between them add a 20+ goal a season striker to that and you have the difference between potentially nicking that last playoff spot and just being in and around the top 10, which I think we will be.

On the trialists, and based on the fact Armstrong said he wanted 3 more, obviously Bell seemed to impress and would certainly be worth another look against Halifax. Donwara seemed to get into good positions in the first half, but needed a little more quality on his final ball / shot if he was to be in contention for a deal. Bascombe, I'm still not sure on, when he came in it seemed like he was being brought in the No. 10 spot but each time this preseason he seems to be sat deep in midfield. I'm not sure if in this league he'll get the time on the ball he has in the friendlies. Still on the fence with him. Holness is the CM I would sign, good, strong, decent with the ball at his feet. If we added Bell and Holness that would give us:

Goalkeepers:
Chris Elliott
Cameron Hall

Defenders:
Luke Trotman (One-year option taken up)
Terry Galbraith
Michael Liddle
Louis Laing
Jonny Burn
Jordan Watson

Midfielders:
David Atkinson
Mitchell Glover
Joe Wheatley
Will Hatfield
Omar Holness

Forwards/wide players:
Adam Campbell
Jamie Holmes
Jarrett Rivers
Stephen Thompson
Luke Bell

Burn and Glover both in italics as I think at the first opportunity available both will be moved on. Add to that with another CF (Armstrong rumoured to be after a loan from a Championship club, reckon it might be Tyrone O'Neil from Boro) and I think we'd be done.

I was positive this time last year, so I'm trying to control my optimism until the actual season kicks off, but I think we're looking pretty good so far. The squad looks more balanced than last season, and we look fitter and with more of an idea of how we are trying to play. There's a couple of question marks I still have. Are we physical enough? We got bullied a lot last season, and I hope the same thing doesn't happen this year. Secondly, will we have enough going forwards? I like the look of all our new attacking signings - all have good movement and pace, but of course until the season starts then it's hard to judge. I'm sure there will be a couple more signings, and some of the trialists look decent.

Overall though there's cause for optimism for the season - roll on 3rd August!

It has been interesting to see that both Burn and Glover have been involved in preseason matches. The smart money seemed to be on their being aspects of the old regime that may not fit into AA's plans. But it is good to see that they are being given a chance to stake their claim. Does anyone have any views on how they have done so far?
It also seems that making the additional signings mentioned by AA may well depend on whether or not Burn and Glover remain. Are there any of the trialists that have impressed enough to offer a better value than Burn and Glover?
From what I have heard of last night's game, and what I saw in the game against Darlington Town, Luke Bell looks a good option as an additional winger, but there is also Donwara as well, but surely there is more need of another midfielder and an extra central forward than being able to sign two additional wingers. And what of Bascome and Tyrell? Bascome looks to be finding his feet in midfield and along with Will Hatfield could offer another option on free kicks, something we have been weak on over the last couple of years. We haven't seen any goals from Tyrell, but then again we have yet to see any from Campbell, but the latter is, on the evidence of last night's highlights, getting into good positions and creating good chances for others. Tyrell is certainly a big presence up front but is he doing enough, and enough that is different to make him a desirable option if the budget permits?
I'm sure that in the full time league world that some of us still remember it was easy to take on a few extra bodies at the start of the season to see if they work out, but we no longer live in those times so I suspect that we are not very far away from our maximum strength unless we can move the couple of players mentioned above. So would we keep them over and above those on trial or have any of the trialists made out a better case for being signed on?

Certainly agree with this. He impressed in the game against Darlington Town. Would be interesting to get a view on how he played in the first half last night. It would certainly be good to have a strong contender for the right back berth if and when we lose Trotman to international duty.

Holness, Bell and Bascome might round it out. How was Donawa?

We know Holness can do it from our preview last year. Bascome tweeted out the other week he couldn't wait for the season to start... which sort of suggests he's on board. Maybe he's on a youth contract? Bell is only an 18 year old lad isn't he? Shouldn't be too big a wage.

Tell you what though, at least the squad looks balanced and AA knows how he's going to set the team up. Better than TW throwing formations out there, and square pegs into round holes to see what fits. I think we've reason to be optimistic.
