Run me through the process of logic here that makes you think Liddle signing might mean Laing could be newspaper hype?don'tbuythesun wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 2:24 pmWhat was all that about Louis Laing signing? If Liddle is the first perhaps that was newspaper hype?

Barely took a half days work to have his first signing over the line...don'tbuythesun wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 9:14 amHe doesn't start the job until today. It's only 10.13 on a bank holiday....give him a chance!

I wouldn’t say newspaper hype is Laing’s new employer confirming that he is now a Darlington player.don'tbuythesun wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 2:24 pmWhat was all that about Louis Laing signing? If Liddle is the first perhaps that was newspaper hype?

Re: Signings
Well there seemed to be a lot of discussion that he'd signed but he apparently hasn't.....yet. Perhaps I was illogical in thinking he'd signed.

How do we know he hasn’t signed yet?don'tbuythesun wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 2:40 pmWell there seemed to be a lot of discussion that he'd signed but he apparently hasn't.....yet. Perhaps I was illogical in thinking he'd signed.
Maybe the club are waiting to make an announcement...

Re: Signings
Not wanting to make this arduous I was merely pointing out that official Twitter says Liddle is our first signing.
Re: Signings
Maybe he's out of contract at a certain point, and the club need to wait for his existing contract to expire?
Or maybe they're dragging out some of the signings (if the rumours are right he's bringing 3-4) to drag out the feel good feeling, keeping attention on fund raising efforts. It's possible.

Re: Signings
As expected.
So that's a LB, RB, CB and RM signed up and moves our squad to 13, although without naming Elliott no one knows who the thirteenth one is.
I believe we have an option of a year on Elliott if we want to take it, hence why he is included in the number.
Goalkeeper, Striker (at least one) and a CM required and then some more when 3/4 of the current squad leave.

Re: Signings
I think the issue is with Elliott is that the year’s option has to be taken up by the 3rd Saturday of May, so we’re passed that now and still no word if he has been released/retained.super_les_mcjannet wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 1:48 pmAs expected.

Do you think it’ll be as many as 3/4 that depart?

Who do you advocate leave, super_les_mcjannet, have you someone in particular in mind.

Re: Signings
I'm hoping for a battling midfielder of the Souness/Keane persuasion. I think that's been what's missing for a while, someone to break up play and defend the defence.
Re: Signings
When/if Atkinson signs he will be pencilled in for that role

Re: Signings
I would guess that we're waiting on whether other targets come to fruition, or perhaps until Armstrong has had a chance to form an opinion on Elliott, before making a decision on whether to take the option on the extra year. Once the 3rd May passed did we lose the control over the situation?

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Re: Signings
E4sby...isn't he a right back?
Re: Signings
AA has previously said that Atkinson can play anywhere in a back 4 as well as a central defensive midfielder which sounds extremely handy in what won't be a huge squad.

Re: Signings
Atkinson lines up in the number 10 shirt if that makes any difference. I’m guessing he played midfield rather than right back.

Re: Signings
Doesn't matter what I think about the players.
Armstrong seems to like a NE base and has come out and names Thompson and Galbraith as players he likes/will keep.
So I would imagine Elliott, Glover, Nicholson and Trotman will all have a chat and decide if they want to travel lots and if they are in the managers plans, likely a number of them will want to move on.
Burn it has never quite worked out yet and Armstrong has already said that he doesn't know if AInge is a CB or Forward. After that you have Wheatley who had interest previsouly, if he stays it's a big season next year for him he will be on decent enough money that we need to see more output. Maybe a stronger team around him will help.
If I had to guess I reckon Burn, Elliott & Glover will leave but I wouldn't be surprised to see Trotman, Nicholson or Ainge leave as well.
Re: Signings
I’m sure a fully fit Wheatley will be a different proposition next season, you could tell he was hampered last season

Re: Signings
Yeah forgot to add that in really.
Either way though think it's a big season for Wheatley, did think he was hanging around at this level for a short term and if he wants to move upwards then he needs a real breakthrough year. I hope he does it.
Re: Signings
Does anyone know it he's had his hernia op, guess he'll have had to hang around on the NHS waiting list
Re: Signings
I could see the possibility of all the ones you mentioned leaving however, for Burn and Ainge there would have to be takers and it'd likely be in a lower league. Could lower teams afford them and Burn/Ainge would have to accept a lower wage when they could easily sit on their contract. Difficult to do at a fans owned club, but they technically have that right. Not that it's got to that stage

The 3rd Saturday of May is when options in contracts must be exercised. Players are free to sign for other clubs after this date.
So presuming that we have not retained Elliott as there has been no announcement from the club, then we lost control of the situation on the 19th May, as you put it.

That’s if Elliott was ever under contract

Re: Signings
So Laing, Rivers and Atkinson seem to be done.
We need at least 2 strikers, a winger, A GK, a CM and possibly another defender too
Who would we like then folks?
