Read Jon sotnick end of reign at arena, he said fans through the gate had dropped dramatically over the year and that is why be lost his CEO job and the plug was pulled by Houghton spiralling us into administration.

Sotnick put the price of the pies up. I'll never forgive him for that............

Hodgy had under 800,000, penny came in and was given over 1m by Houghton which went to just under 2m the next season so penny had by far the best opportunity to get promoted and still didn't. I think if hodgy had had the same amount it would have been a different ending for him,
Hodgy had under 800k under Davies which is why I think he's a good manager on a budget. However Houghton gave him £1.7 million which he squandered and then Penney took over. The following season, yes Penney had £2 million.

Got to remember wasn't Platt's squad of 1996 basically Hodgson's team, then obviously in 1999/2000 he had a good go again (I suspect that he had a bit of budget that time mind as I don't think Heaney, Gray, Aspin or Nogan will have come cheap).

In terms of the Houghton era. Was Joachim a Sotnick signing imposed upon Hodgson as talented as he was having someone else do recruitment and paying 6 figure sums just didn't feel like it was Hodgson's style. He was always about the north east based bosmans and relatively unknown foreign talent.

My favourite times watching Darlo were under Hodgson the 99/00 season, and even the seasons at the arena with Hignett, Wijnard and Smith.

That said I haven't regularly attended games since the 06/07 season and only really remember starting to go from 97/98 on wards.
