Start naming names people! Realistic ones of course.

Armstrong for me. I know he did a bit of a number on us last time around but the bloke knows how to get a tune out of some bang average players. I’d suggest (although I don’t know) that our budget would be at least as good, if not better, than Blyth’s and I reckon we could tempt him down

Chris Swailes - Done a great job at Dunston, has coaching experience and is locally based. Imagine he'd cost next to nothing.

John Flanagan - Had a limited budget at Curzon and managed to get them punching above their weight. Experience of the league.

Would have doubts over Armstrong following recent comments, seems to suggest he's after a big budget with the hope of a push up the leagues sooner rather than later. Not what we can/should be doing.

Not keen on Armstrong after his public outburst about budget etc.

Would have jumped at Armstrong, but agree with others after his recent outburst.

We need a manager who is happy to work within what we can give him, the last thing we need is dummy spitting if there aren't extra funds available.

Forget Flanagan, North West based and did not come across well in his post match interviews and seemed to be over critical of players who he would name.Always seemed to be moaning about something so a big no from me.

I'd be interested in either Neil Aspin or Chris Swailes. I'm sure there will be some left field applicants so we shall wait and see. As always the team will have my full support and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve next season.

Chris Swailes or Paul Thirlwell.

We had 40 applicants last time and that was three months into the season when the pool is much more limited and I'm sure there'll be a fair bit of interest.

I can see Brian Atkinson wanting it along with Alan White but I think we need a completely fresh start to take us forward. There's a lot to like about Chris Swailes' background and character and the same applies to Nick Gray at Morpeth and Adam Lakeland at Farsley (although he has just signed a long-term deal and lives in Lancs).

Alun Armstrong's public attack on his employers at Blyth raises some questions and may want more than we can afford, Chris Hardy has just signed a two-year deal at Whitby and Flanagan is yesterday's man now. McGurk didn't fancy it last time and he has no experience as a manager and would be a real gamble if he has had a change of heart.

It's a demanding job along with the Academy side of things but I think plenty will want it and the right man is out there.

Just Googled Paul Thirlwell-good call. Don't remember him playing for Sunderland.

Paul Thirlwell is a great shout

Experience at this level as assistant manager at Harrogate good contacts in the region, already has the required coaching badges, also played at all levels

There are plenty of other potential candidates that I wouldn’t mind us considering - Neal Bishop, Chris Swailes, Colin Cooper, Ian Bogie, Neil Aspin and of course Alun Armstrong if he can behave himself

Ian Bogie did a cracking job at Gateshead , sure he went to another club when he left them and don't think he lasted long. Not sure where he's been since though.

I think he went to Stockport and it didn’t work out as well for him

Don’t fancy Armstrong personally. Like Gray without the bit about winning things.

Important we have someone that knows the financial limitations of the club. Someone that is local. I would go for Micky Cummins who is assistant at York, yes Steve Watson has got all the praise for how well he did at Gatesheed - but Micky was so important to Steve Watson that he took him with him to York - also he ticks the box as a former player which I think is a good thing.
I wonder if Martin Gray has left his phone switched on tonight?

Why would the former player box need to be ticked?
We need a complete change from this “Darlo though and through “ bollocks.

I've just read up on Ian Bogie and it's certainly someone we should look into a bit more. Knows Adam Bartlett too as has previously signed him. Is from Newcastle so knows the area

Ben Clark and Ian Watson could be a cheeky ask. Even better if he can bring a few of the young Gateshead lads.

Do they have much experience? Clark knows the area and I think he's been doing coaching.

If we could tempt Mark Bower from Bradford PA, that would tick a lot of boxes for me.

Lee Clarke is itching to get back into management but doesn’t have the experience of non league.

Not been in management for six years. And resigned at this level with Stockport after just a month into the season. Personally feel his time's been and gone.

For me, I want a manager who has experience of this level, an ability to set up a team coherently and knows what they want to achieve.

To me, I'd like Mark Bower. He's done well at Bradford PA, particularly in tricky circumstances since January. Questions about whether he'd A) want the job given he's already employed and B) whether the different challenge financially would suit him (Bradford PA have been living beyond their means).

But back-to-back play-off finishes, if he pulls it off, is a success in anyone's book.

Neil Aspin to me seems viable. Would certainly get us playing more cohesively, has a track-record at this level and you would think good contacts around this area from his time at Halifax and Gateshead. Negatives are his performance at Port Vale and Gateshead was a little underwhelming. And he comes across as dour, which won't endear him to sections of our support. He would be the polar opposite to TW. And would he want to drop to this level?

Or we could look at someone like Chris Swailes. Has worked wonders at Dunston and would relatively cheap if he wanted to come. But has little experience higher up.

I don't think there's a shortage of viable candidates. No one will be perfect and all will have their weaknesses. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the new man ended up being a left-field appointment none of us have thought about.
