Relatively easy for us to get BM up to 4,000 at least. I suspect it'll be more of a challenge for Spen - and also demonstrating how they could ever reach 5,000.
If you look at the layout of the ground on Google Maps it looks pretty much impossible unless they're willing to spend a load of money to buy peoples homes around the ground. Easier said than done, could cost them millions.

Not hard to increase capacity to 4k

The Main Stand side is virtually undeveloped. Terracing could easily be installed there, several rows deep - especially at bottom end of that side. There is sufficient space to do that there.

The Durham Road End capacity would be increased simply by relaying the existing old uneven terracing and installing crush barriers.

the Tees Crescent side at the Durham road end again could relatively easily be subject to new expanded terracing to increase capacity.

There would be no need to expand footprint of ground to increase capacity there. The terracing does not need to be covered, so this effectively negates any objections from neighbouring properties to any of the development.

Harder for us to get to 4,000. Flat standing is not accepted behind a goal as counting towards capacity, so if we remove 800 (current capacity of open end) from 3,300 (current total capacity) you get 2,500. So we would have to put something in place at the open end to cover 1,500 (unless we extend the seated stand towards the open end but this wouldn't amount to much) to get up to 4,000.

Given Spennymoor's crowds, I see little point increasing the capacity until promotion was guaranteed, as they'll never need the extra capacity. Uncle Brad would do better to hang onto his money.

Much easier for us compared to Spenny to increase capacity really in theory if you just look at the land around only and not take into account money/planning. We have all the land around the ground, you could double the tin shed (knock it down and rebuild) and build a massive stand on the other side all the way to the corner flag (again knocking down and rebuilding).

Sadly money and Rugby Club support/agreement would be our stumbling blocks whilst Spenny would have much more issues in terms of land and planning permission but probably have no money issues.

The only thing that is the difference is money, if you have it you can most often make things work.

Spennymoor could expand the ground I'm sure. They could do what Eastleigh have done and expand the existing main stand. Removing existing seats in the terrace would add to capacity. Sure they had plans to build stands on the 2 remaining uncovered sides

What are the regulations associated with the level of the pitch surface? Spennymoors ground is on a significant slope!

Probably isn't any, also if there were any regulations then Brad would pay for it to be sorted.

We do sound like we would love reasons whilst Spenny would not be allowed promotion or struggle, we just need to face it that the chairman is a get things done kind of guy and will do what it takes.

I’ve just had a peek at the F.A. guidance on this and the slope shouldn’t exceed a 1/41 ratio in any direction. To my eye Spennymoor’s pitch exceeds this, and I’m used to looking at things like this.

Might not apply to below league level.
