I think it's just that the team above is missing a name. I'm sure either O'Hanlon or Kokolo will be at left wing back, Elliott, Nicholson and Palmer in the middle.

Apparently Elliott left wing back according to Darlo Fans Radio, he is quite simply NOT a left wing back whereas Kokolo surely is a better option.Wright has to make a decision on him, either give him a game or send him back.

Could be wrong , but I don't think Elliott has ever started on the bench.
TW never puts Elliott on the bench or ever subs him which I cannot understand.Seems to be one of Tommy's "favourites".?

Why do you hate Elliott?

Get behind the players. He might surprise you.

I don't "hate" anybody for god's sake, I cannot understand Wright's obsession with Elliott as he gets played week in week out and at times should be subbed. Why has Wright put him in at LB when he has a better option on the bench.Curzon just scored and according to DFR he was mainly responsible.I rest my case.

You're "resting your case" based on the vague ramblings of the DFR away commentator?

Maybe that we have had a lack of other central midfield options this season, and he's an energetic player by all accounts - perhaps he's one of the fitter players so not an obvious one to bring off?

Why he's playing at left wing back when we have a 'natural' left back on the bench I don't know, but for all we know he's perfectly capable in that role, just like Galbraith turned out to be in central defence despite having come out of the womb as a left back according to some on here!

Looks like we're going 4-4-2 with Ainge up front.

Nicholson and Wheatley off, Henshall and Kokolo on.

Maddison

Trotman Smith Galbraith Kokolo

Thompson Elliott Palmer Henshall

Ainge Saunders

These wingers need to be whipping crosses in, no more fannying about with tippy tappy stuff.

Seems to go to pieces when he’s the “senior” striker.

Darlington should be ahead, Saunders missing a great chance. Ainge played him in after good work by Thompson, Saunders was going wide and took the shot early, the ball rolling across goal and going the wrong side of the post.

FT: 1-1

Darlington had the better of the second half, particularly after changing formation when making a couple of substitutions, but were unable to turn possession into goals.

Curzon had taken the lead two minutes into the second half before Tom Elliott equalised.

1-1, sounded like a decent performance and yet another knobber ref - unfortunately a draw just isn't good enough IMO.

This is down to too many draws and defeats already.

When Nelson was at the club we had that little bit extra that looked to be taking us well clear of the drop zone. We are still playing well, but Kidderminster aside, the goals have begun to dry up. This wouldn't be tragic if the defence could close games out but we always seem to find a way to give the opposition a freebie or two. Can't fault a lot of the approach play in recent games and Thommo is back to his best, but we badly need a finisher, and whilst Harvey has made a bigger splash this season he's still a raw talent and needs someone beside him to take a bit of the pressure off.

Decent performance and decent point against a side who’ve won 4 in a row prior to playing us. Thought we should’ve had a penalty during the scramble inside the box midway through the second half, and should’ve scored one of the three or four chances we had after the equaliser...

We have the solution. Stick Ainge back up front, simple as that.

Go 4-4-2 like we finished today with two wingers (then you don't need to put Ainge at the back) and work on whipping cross after cross in. He will start getting on the end of those crosses as he regains fitness and form. He really is superb in the air, as proven at Harrogate.

We've never used him properly yet, at the start of the season the players looked like they weren't sure what sort of service to provide Ainge and Styche, and went up the middle far too often. In those first few matches I thought Ainge actually did quite well, also scoring 3 or 4 goals, and although not at peak fitness, was winning headers that he had no right to.

Then he got injured and has been in and out after that - had a few fitness problems to be fair, but hopefully that's now behind him and he can get sharper.

We all know he's a good defender, but he's also a good striker and that is why we signed him. Seeing as though we have nothing else up front, we MUST use him up front. If he flops, then fair enough then, lesson learned. But I think he'll come good.

People who keep saying he should just be played in defence are a) talking nonsense, and b) not seeing the bigger picture, in that we can't afford to have our "star" striker wasted in defence when his job is to score goals.

Think about it, we've got no money and are paying someone strikers money to sit in the back 4? Yes, we've had to play him there due to injuries, but those people who think he should *stay* there are simply not thinking of the financials.

He HAS to play up front, going forwards. We need to learn to play to his strengths.

Not necessarily. All good refs start at the bottom and work their way higher up. There's no reason (in theory) why there shouldn't be a fair few good refs at this level, who are simply passing by on their climb.

I'd also argue that while I understand realistically the better refs officiate higher up, there should be a minimum level, essentially a ref from our division should be capable of reffing a premiership game to a decent standard, otherwise you are effectively being penalised with officials who have made glaring errors or just aren't good enough because you are at a lower level

That’s funny because I work with quite a few Boro fans and they’re always saying how bad the championship refs are.
