Fans Forum - Friday night (March 23rd)

by DFCSG_Secretary
Fans forum on Friday night, March 23rd, was announced yesterday. Good chance to hear from Tommy, Alan and David Johnston on progress over last few months and plans going forward.
Manager Tommy Wright and assistant manager Alan White will be the main speakers at a fans’ forum to be held at Blackwell Grange Hotel on Friday evening (23rd March) beginning at 7pm.

The management pair will be there to chat about the season so far, their plans for the future and other events on the playing side. This will be their first appearance at a fans’ forum since they were appointed last year, so this is your chance to ask them questions. Directors John Tempest and David Johnston will also be in attendance.

(Unfortunately, Blackwell Meadows is unavailable as it is booked for a function)

Great news and perfect timing with the team doing so well. That was my one disappointment about the forum at the Dolphin Centre that we didn't hear much from Tommy. But sounds like him and Whitey will be the principal speakers.

Are you turning up in your yellow wig, red nose and long shoes Pete ?

Any chance that this forum could form the basis of a podcast?
Would help all those interested who cannot attend the event

It would be even better if it was covered by the Darlo Fans Radio, especially for our long distance fans.

We'll be recording a new podcast episode next week - I can't make the forum but someone from the team should be in attendance and we'll sum up the talking points, I'm sure.

Who's going tomorrow evening, I'll be there plus one other. Hope there's a big turnout.

Scratch that, I will be there - but I won't be live-tweeting it.

Does anybody know if any of our players will be in attendance tonight and if so which one's?

I can't make it so hopefully someone will be live tweeting - let's hope it's not as eventful as the one towards the end of last season was!

Is there anyway to send in questions for then to be put to Wright and White for those unable to attend:

Any more players likely to sign contracts in the next couple of weeks?

Do any of those who have signed have minimum release clauses in their contracts?

How have Boro felt about Pear's development with us? Do they believe that it is likely we will see more players make the same loan switch next season?

Etc

How about - are we still expecting York City to turn out for a pre-season friendly as per the agreement when Mr Gray jumped ship? Definitely should not be including those proceeds into the budget for next year!

Do York City owe us any money re player transfers ?

Has there been anymore developments with the proposed sports hub at the arena?

Are any of the current youth team players getting contracts?

We will also receive a fee if Harrogate win the league as part of the Beck deal.

Meeting with DB Council shortly. We are holding out for a 4G pitch, own clubhouse and base for our own Academy.

Looking for our reserve team to offer progression but when players have the ability to slot into the first team if & when necessary.

At least TW didn't act anything like MG and his infamous spat dummy episode. Really open, honest and transparent interaction, making us all feel involved in the future of the club. Great to see the unity between management team and supporters - real hope for the future. Rather be in our position than York or Hartlepools!

He said that Brown had to prove himself by the summer. Hunter has a contract for next season and wants to return before the end of the season, but TW would prefer him to take the summer get fit and ready for the start of the new season. Mills has had personal issues and a recurring injury, but TW believes Mills has got a lot to show fans and just needs to lose a bit of weight.

TW said that Newcastle and Sunderland have offered us players recently who have played for England under 19's and 20's for nothing. But they have to be the right player that will improve the team. TW said that the one area he'd like to strengthen in bringing in a centre forward. But he admitted that no centre forward wants to come in and play second fiddle to Styche, which is understandable.

Both TW and DJ said that they were impressed with how Turnbull had reacted to being stripped of his captaincy and they said that Turnbull loves the club and has been putting in his best form of the season in recent games.

It's not surprising about Turnbull he seems to be a top bloke and a very good player to boot, hope he sticks around for years to come..

I doubt he'd stay if and when we get promoted to the Conference.

Really good forum with lots of transparency and very positive. Great to see that clearly there is a good relationship between board and TW.
Only negative for me was fact that finance position is not as positive as expected. My understanding was that we raised a one off £60k only a couple of months ago, following the Dolphin centre meeting. . We were told that this would finally put us on a solid footing, remove carried over debt, and put some cash in hand for cash flow and enable next financial year to start on a positive. Clearly hasn’t happened in full which is dissapointing.
Overall though a good enjoyable meeting.

What was presented on the financials? Clearly PSV seems to have overshadowed everything!

Turnbull reminds me a bit of Michael Carrick. Even though he's not going to snap anyone on half to get the ball, he's always in the right place and you generally feel pretty calm when he's in possession.

What was said about the debt? I know the aim was to eliminate it by the end of February

DJ in his opening just made a brief comment that the finances were not where he had hoped they would be, but still better than previous year. The meeting did not cover finance but mainly concentrated on playing side.
I challenged CS afterwards, who DJ had said was looking at the finances, but he was quite vague, basically saying that the money had made a difference and we were in a much healthier position but when pushed on the use of the £60k he again was vague, just reiterating that we were still in a better position than last year etc. Etc.

Saturday morning brain freeze - CS?
