As always, ginge, many thanks. I love stats and I will always head to one of your posts ahead of any other.
Your ‘problem’ for the remainder of the season seems to me to be one of lack of statistical excitement! Barring the almost unimanageable, we are not going to get relegated and we are not going to be in the play-offs. I simply don’t see the adrenalin factor in whether we end up 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th or 18th.
What we do have is effectively eight “free” games for TW & Co. to build for next season - to clarify strengths and weaknesses, to hone, to build, to try things out without going overboard on one change after another. That is actually a big luxury at this stage of the season and, for me, that is what we should be about on the run in. Of course, it would be nice to finish 10th, rather than 18th, but that is less important than TW knowing by late April exactly where he wants to be in August.
So I shall continue enjoying your posts with interest, even if they lack a certain frisson.

Back in January, we'd have loved the position we now find ourselves in. Tommy & Alan have worked wonders and changed our fortunes around. Given our perilous position I welcome a quiet end to the season and I believe that next season, we can mount a serious promotion bid, even though some say it is too early for us to get promoted.

It's noteworthy that it was exactly two month's ago yesterday that the team headed to Alfreton and got that first result on what proved to be the start of a great run of results that has seen the team move well away from the drop zone. Remembering that match, and the late loss of two valuable points, the desperation of our position then seems a million miles away now.

With the chaos created during this season by having to change managers mid term, and raise unbelievably large sums of money to get the ground looking better and ready for promotion, to come out at the end with a team anywhere away from the drop will be a great achievement.

I think we can now afford to start thinking about what happens next, but without getting too carried away. Some talk of the play offs this year was clearly pointless, and indeed may be so for another season at least, until the club's finances and sustainability can be made more robust. The work currently being done to get the club engaged with young fans and to get the club a place in the hearts and minds of the general public of Darlington is just as important as getting our new home ready for the next stage of on the field success. TW's bringing in new, young players is also a new development that gives future prospects of a team growing with a new fan base and giving the youth of the town a reason to believe that they can be part of the team both on and off the field.

Whilst the constant success of the MG era had us all focused on the football league as the end objective, I would rather that end objective be given a rather smaller place in our list of must haves for the next few years whilst the rebuilding of the club in Darlington takes place. Looking at the turmoil being felt by the fans of some of our near neighbours, I know that I would rather be where we are right now.

This is a good point. I've noticed on twitter the leaflets going into primary schools, some of the players have been to local schools, and the launch of the Junior Quakers club. Alongside of course the extension of free entry to under 11s. All excellent ideas, and hats off to those who are putting in the hard work getting these ideas up and running

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make this happen by Geoff Gale and Tony Waters, yesterday morning Mowden Primary was visited and Heighington Primary was visited yesterday afternoon with Geoff, Alan White and Mr Q...

There is more visits planned in the next couple of weeks, I'm sure Aycliffe was mentioned and Heathfield Primary also.

I just hope the visits encourages younger fans into BM

It'll be very interesting to see how resurgent Southport get on at York this coming Saturday. I'd imagine Southport are the last club they'd fancy playing at the moment.

Agreed, I've not written a post that was for us as mid-table, with a small number of games to go. The drama from a potential relegation in January is still subsiding, Telford and Gainsborough losing midweek takes one game away from them, and we also added a point. If Telford and Gainsborough do average 1 point per game the rest of the season, then we are almost safe, so yes, where is the excitement in predictions unless it's betting on those two going down.
I hope there is some chances for the younger players to get some games, but not at the expense of losing our momentum and drifting to the end of the season. A few more games for Mitchell Glover and Jack Vaulks would be good for them in readiness for next season.
