Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Trotman, Wheatley and Heaton have all been signed up to the week long V9 Academy trial this summer where scouts from clubs all across Britain come to watch.

What possible impact would this have on our club, is it a shop window which may involve clubs possibly sniffing around.Hope we have these lads on contracts just in case.Darlo_CR wrote:Trotman, Wheatley and Heaton have all been signed up to the week long V9 Academy trial this summer where scouts from clubs all across Britain come to watch.

Oh good..... are they all under contract?
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Yes it’s effectiely a shop window for clubs to view the best players in non league, they will still be under contract (I hope) so if any of them impress, we could see them move on for a fee. Tamworth’s Danny Newton signed for Stevenage last year for an undisclosed fee through this scheme.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:What possible impact would this have on our club, is it a shop window which may involve clubs possibly sniffing around.Hope we have these lads on contracts just in case.Darlo_CR wrote:Trotman, Wheatley and Heaton have all been signed up to the week long V9 Academy trial this summer where scouts from clubs all across Britain come to watch.

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
I'd imagine nearly all league and Premiership clubs would have scouts at such an event, in a bid to uncover the next rough diamond.
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
There were circa 70 professional club scouts at last years week long trials I believe. From what i remember Danny Newton actually moved from Tamworth to Stevenage on a free as he was out of contract last summer. Other players to get pro moves were Alex Penny who moved from Nuneaton to Peterborough for £50k, Blair Turgott who moved from Bromley to Stevenage and Lamar Reynolds who moved from Brentwood Town to Newport County.
Fantasitc achievement for all three lads, I just hope they are all on 2 year contracts. If we are going to lose some of our best player to pro clubs we should be adequately compensated. On another point of view would be a great message to come out from the club, DFC as a great route back into the pro game for young players who have perhaps failed to fully graduate from academy football eg Wheatley.

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Naturally, they're all young lads who will have ambitions of playing full time, so you can't begrudge them right now, although you just hope as a club, we have them signed to contract so anyone wanting to take them on would see the club turn a profit, which could be re-invested back into the club.
I think all three could play at a higher level, but Wheatley in particular.

If we have talented players then it is unrealistic for us to expect them to commit to a part-time club. Selling them on for a significant amount would be to our advantage. There is no point sending someone to this event if they don't have a contract for next season.

Is it clubs sending players, or rather the players themselves choosing to go to these trials ie can a club prevent a player going?

This is nothing but good news, PROVIDING they are under contract... if they are not, then give them extensions... now!

Contracts: These are all relatively new acquisitions. Given the way MG was doling out 2 year contracts, and the furore on this site, I would expect caution on the length of contract, has been exercised, along with release and sell on clauses.

Will be very surprised if Tommy and DJ have not sorted out contracts for these lads as they will attract interest without a doubt. All 3 are getting better with every game and Heaton especially will be worth big money.SwansQuaker83 wrote:This is nothing but good news, PROVIDING they are under contract... if they are not, then give them extensions... now!

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
It is only a matter of time before someone comes after Heaton, he is that good.
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
There are definite flaws in his game, but he’s still young enough to work on a few bits and with the right development he could get back to a league club. Right now i’d say he’s about at his right level. He does lack a turn of pace that would certainly help him out

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Not convinced Gray would have let it happen but who knows.
One thing for certain if we want to be a club that is known for progressing players on to professional football and give them another reason to sign for us, then we have to go along with this kind of thing.
We are at the top end of part time football now, the next step for the young lads signed up with us is to play professional. A lot would want to bring young players in and see them progress as long as the club does ok out of this then it should be win/win.
However be gutted to lose these lads if they get picked up, even more gutted if we don't have them on contracts.

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
White confirms in the echo that all three are contracted for next season. Great for the club and good luck to the 3 going down there in the summer.
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Glad they're all under contract. I've no problem with us being a club who for now sells itself to talented young players on 'come to us, play and if you're good enough you'll get a chance at getting a pro move', as long as we gain financially from it.

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
To get 3 players on this, is against the odds. Just hope the lads are not being exploited in some way and the scouts are paying to attend (once they have been through some vetting process in the first place!)

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
According to Alan White, only 40 from around the country have been invited, so to have 3 of those from our club is a brilliant achievement.

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
for anyone who hasnt seen it,watched the last series on Sky - it wasnt bad. There was an element of that type of "X Factor" t.v. about it, but suppose that was to be expected - the lads train for a week , then split into three squads and play a couple of games in front of the scouts. Its linked together with stuff about Jamie Vardy and his rise from non league. Spenny had at least one lad on last year (Taylor cf ?) The players are all approached by the V9 academy to do the training camp by the V9 scouts , headed by chief scout Lee Tucker, whose north east connections mean that their is a decent NE contingent on the programme

its a reality tv format for entertainment purposes, but doesnt have the feel of being as exploitative as some? - the theme is "Jamie did it, so can you"jjljks wrote:To get 3 players on this, is against the odds. Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Never seen it, just curious, does anyone know of players who have attended this and gone on to bigger and better things?
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
V9 only started last year, but 4 out of the 42 starters Danny Newton, Alex Penny, Lamar Reynolds and Blair Turgott, landed professional contracts. Newton & Turgott both went to Stevenage, Penny to Peterborough and Reynolds originally to Newport County then out on loan to Leyton Orient. All a bit early to say 'bigger & better' but at least progressing up the pro ladder, not quite up to Vardy level but nice to see Jamie Vardy putting back into lower league soccer.Darlopartisan wrote:Never seen it, just curious, does anyone know of players who have attended this and gone on to bigger and better things?
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
I have no idea what a V9 academy is but good luck to the three lads involved.
Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
Part of being sustainable is going to be going along with this sort of thing. Picking players up, developing them and then making a bit of money from them after a year or so.
We've done it with Ferguson and Beck and it would seem likely that one or two of these three might make us a few thousand too at some point.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Was it him and Mark Sunley signed at the same time in 1991.

Re: Three players sign for the V9 Academy
I'd say 4 out 42 isn't a very good return, hopefully the numbers will increase this year. You might get to the stage were clubs will start to think that they'll not pick up anybody, so the number of scouts from top clubs may start to decline.
