Got to be an away game according to Craig S as BM is being used.My opinion wrote:Should be an opportunity to play it next week as both teams a free.

Re: Match off
Perhaps edit the title to say Salford match off otherwise can be confusing in the future.
Re: Match off
That's a shame - the drawbacks of ground sharing! We best hope Boxing Day is on otherwise we're going to have some cash flow issues (if we aren't already)MCFCDarlo3 wrote:Got to be an away game according to Craig S as BM is being used.My opinion wrote:Should be an opportunity to play it next week as both teams a free.

Re: Match off
Weather is meant to be a bit warmer (relatively speaking...) towards the end of the week, so Friday night v Salford could be a possibility?
Re: Match off
Friday night would be ace (plus i could made it )
Hopefully the club suggest / Salford agree.

I believe the covers only cover the penalty areas, which isn't much use really.HarrytheQuaker wrote:Where are the covers????

Re: Match off
The covers are still at HP in a right mess as they were dumped under the temporary stand 5 years ago and haven't been moved. They're absolutely massive and full of water. It's going to take an army of volunteers and some serious lifting gear to sort them.Darlo_Pete wrote:I believe the covers only cover the penalty areas, which isn't much use really.HarrytheQuaker wrote:Where are the covers????

Re: Salford match off
Only 4 matches in our league have survived the weather.
3 teams below us are playing and they could potentially push us further down the league - they are;FC UTD (Home/Brackley) Leamington (Home/Gainsborough) and Nuneaton (Home H'gate)

This IS possible though, we do have a good record of people generously giving their time.

Tried it once but you really do need some specialist equipment. Would also need somewhere to store at BM. It's no good just chucking them in a heap again behind the tin shed

Re: Match off
Thinking about days like today, is there anything we could do on the hop to raise a bit of cash? Like if the rugby club aren't at home, and there's nowt on in the club, can we not get the bar open, get people down for the Newcastle game, advertise it across twitter, all bar proceeds go in the club coffers after costs are covered... pack it out... few cheeky buckets going round, put your change in etc... volunteers were working today anyway so they can staff it....al_quaker wrote:That's a shame - the drawbacks of ground sharing! A stretch and it could be something different... but just an idea.
I've bought my York ticket today so that goes into the coffers.
Just hearing Macclesfield volunteers were at their ground for 6am getting the pitch sorted... the covers are a no brainer, one bad winter could cost us a fortune.

Well I don't know but is it warmer in Bishop this morning? I'd suggest it's probably colder by a degree or twotheoriginalfatcat wrote:Rescued by using our covers?
Re: Match off
As divas has already said, them covers aren't shifting without some serious lifting equipment. I was one of the volunteers that went to HP to see about moving them and they literally wouldn't shift even with 5 of us trying to move them.SwansQuaker83 wrote:Bishop's game is on so looks like they have been rescueddivas wrote:The covers are still at HP in a right mess as they were dumped under the temporary stand 5 years ago and haven't been moved. It's the rugby club's bar so it wouldn't raise much for the football club that. Probably better off just chucking some cash in to one of the DFCSG fundraising vehicles!SwansQuaker83 wrote:Thinking about days like today, is there anything we could do on the hop to raise a bit of cash? Covers would be useful, although aren't covers more for protection from snow/rain/frost, rather than a frozen pitch?

Eh!!.What the hell do you think causes a frozen pitch other than frost.al_quaker wrote:It's the rugby club's bar so it wouldn't raise much for the football club that. Water deep in the ground freezing? Rather than the surface freezing, which is what I'd take frost to mean.Emdubya wrote: Eh!!.What the hell do you think causes a frozen pitch other than frost.
Could be wrong though, I'm no groundsman

Likewise with Stockport. Having helped put the covers onto the pitch at the Arena, I can testify that it's a big job. They were stored in a big unit at the Arena and then were dragged to the side of the pitch with a mini tractor. I seem to recall there were about four separate covers and several of us then had to lift and drag them over the pitch once they had been positioned at the side. They were big, heavy duty things and boy it was hard work so you need several people like in the picture at FCUM.
I seem to recall someone at the time saying they preserve the pitch down to a few degrees below but if the temperature drops way way down the pitch will still cop it despite the covers.
They would have done the job today but, as said, we will need to arrange the transportation and storage somewhere at BM. And then make sure we can call on enough people to get them on the pitch a day or two before the match and off again a couple of hours before kick-off. And then put them away again or back on the pitch after the game.

Re: Match off
If moving and manhandling these covers is such a problem how about cutting them into smaller units to make them more useable. You would still have the same overall area but in more sections. And I don’t suppose an old shipping container would cost a fortune to keep them in.loan_star wrote:As divas has already said, them covers aren't shifting without some serious lifting equipment. Because if you cut them into smaller pieces they would blow all over the place.Emdubya wrote: If moving and manhandling these covers is such a problem how about cutting them into smaller units to make them more useable. You would still have the same overall area but in more sections. And I don’t suppose an old shipping container would cost a fortune to keep them in.
Also, would the rugby club be happy with covers being put on when they have rights to use the pitch too?

Another waste of money then as well as the Stand that is still there fook me we know how to waste money..Ridiculous...Surley we can put out an sos Darlo fans will help, I don't have a big van etc but I'd help drag them out to re fold them etc... Come lets at least try...divas wrote:The covers are still at HP in a right mess as they were dumped under the temporary stand 5 years ago and haven't been moved. Im not talking about cutting them into hankies ffs. If 5 men can’t lift one piece take them down to a size that 5men can lift. And I’m sure the rugby lads would be more than happy to use them as required.loan_star wrote:Because if you cut them into smaller pieces they would blow all over the place.Emdubya wrote: If moving and manhandling these covers is such a problem how about cutting them into smaller units to make them more useable. You would still have the same overall area but in more sections. And I don’t suppose an old shipping container would cost a fortune to keep them in.
