How the fuck can they be practical if we can’t use them as they are. You’re a real “can doer” aren’t you.loan_star wrote:They are made to a size that is practical for the purpose they are made for.Emdubya wrote:Im not talking about cutting them into hankies ffs. Also, would the rugby club be happy with covers being put on when they have rights to use the pitch too?
Salford match off

Re: Salford match off
The smaller the pieces, the more ways for the frost to get underneath, plus if the wind gets up they would be harder to keep down.
As with all things like this, they are practical if you have the manpower or equipment to use them.

Re: Salford match off
Loan star is right. We had them when moving them was no problem. No-one was to know what the FA would do to us.
So squabbles apart we need to:
Get the means to transport them to BM
Negotiate their storage at BM
Have the means to put them on the night before and take them off (someone with a tractor and trailer).
So if we can do the above, then we are in business. Now how's that for can-doing.

Loan star is not right and neither are you.We have these things now and moving and using them IS a problem. We don’t have a tractor and trailer. What we (hopefully)have is willing MAN power.Halfing the size of these things would at least make them useable with a few pegs if required.Vodka_Vic wrote:Loan star is right. Re: Salford match off
Moving and using them might not be a problem if we can put it out there what we need. Hopefully it'll be brought up on Monday. It's only come to light when we've needed them.

Covers were taken to Bishop from the Arena however they had been stored very badly and were ripped and largely ruined. Some of the better ones were used. On another note the DFC decent lawnmower was taken from the Arena to BM a couple of months ago and after an overhaul at Lloyd it’s as good as new.

Re: Salford match off
The covers at Bishop I believe will only partially cover the pitch, so they won't be effective at all if we get a hard frost.
Re: Salford match off
They are all there under the stand for the full pitch, bishop only ever cover the problem areas so only use one or twoDarlo_Pete wrote:The covers at Bishop I believe will only partially cover the pitch, so they won't be effective at all if we get a hard frost.

Re: Salford match off
I have helped put the covers on at HP 2 seasons ago, if I remember correctly there were about 8 of up there (including Martin and Brian) it took about one and half hours to put out all the covers, they cover about 3/5 of the pitch, they were put in the main on the shaded areas (main stand/in front of tin shed) and goal areas, we had to pallets to hold them down from the wind, I can't remember how many pieces there were, but we were able to manhandle them all to the areas. They weren't in to bad a condition dirty yes, but these type of canvases are designed to be left folded for months until used.
We did that on a Christmas eve to try and make sure the game on Boxing Day went ahead, and it did.
So should we get them down to BM ? Absolutely, I am willing to help bring them down it just needs organising with Bishop and BM grounds men and the clubs of course, a few more volunteers and a bit of transport.
We could get this organised on Monday night, if we don't then it will be an opportunity missed

Re: Salford match off
We'd need either a flatbed or a Luton van to transport them and ideally a forklift to get them out.
Re: Salford match off
Suggest you tootle on up to HP and see just what a job it would be to move the covers. There were 5 of us on site when we went to check and despite all 5 pulling at them they would not shift. There isn't the space behind the stand to get many more people in there to pull them out therefore we need some proper equipment to shift them.Emdubya wrote:Loan star is not right and neither are you.We have these things now and moving and using them IS a problem. We don’t have a tractor and trailer. What we (hopefully)have is willing MAN power.Halfing the size of these things would at least make them useable with a few pegs if required.Vodka_Vic wrote:Loan star is right. Re: Salford match off
I like how people who haven't tried to shift the covers are telling people who have tried to shift the covers how easy it is to shift the covers.
Re: Salford match off
Liked the look of the covers at fc united, there is a company, matchmaker at Stokesly that manufacture them. Would it be worthwhile investing in them, look simple to roll out.

Re: Salford match off
I looked into this a while ago it all comes down to cost , a new set was £25000 to £30000, a used set of covers was £10000.quakerste wrote:Liked the look of the covers at fc united, there is a company at Stokesly that manufacture them. When I was talking to them he mentioned Harrogate who got a used set of covers (before they went 3G) not sure if they still have them or use them, if someone has any contacts there might be worth a call.

Agreed. Helped out once or twice with these and they are incredibly heavy. Hard job.loan_star wrote:Suggest you tootle on up to HP and see just what a job it would be to move the covers. Re-arranged for Sunday at 1pm
I'll assume Salford didn't want to play Friday night. 1pm on a Sunday though. Yuk.

We'll get a better crowd on the Sunday, than the Friday night.
