New Team?

Post by Darlopartisan » Sun Sep 17, 2017 6:42 pm

Hypothetical question, if we were to rebuild who do we keep and who you let go?
My 'keeps' would be Bartlett Wheatley Turnbull Vaulks Saunders Brown Ferguson Collins Galbraith Cartman Beck Ed W. Portas.
Some just near the airplane door red light on, Hunter Syers Marrs,
Green light go go, Thompson Gillies Caton Scott Burgess.
;)

You missed Portas out.

Largely wrong time to be making large scale squad changes but I think Gray could probably dispose of around at least 3 or 4. We have a squad of 21 and we may as well reduce to 18 over the next month or so. Maybe remove 5 or 6 and bring in 2 or 3 if possible, perhaps complete it by reducing the budget also.

If he isn't going to trust Vaulks/Saunders to play then may as well send out on loan, although I think keep and give them some opportunities.

Who you want to keep has to be largely dependent upon what kind of wages they command. I suspect those who have played at a higher level will be getting better wages. Could pay get two younger players for the same as you pay Turnbull? Does he deliver enough to justify his place?

Has Gray lost the dressing room or does he really have so little faith in his own ability to get the best out of his players?

Shipping out players en masse, particularly players who we have all seen be good enough, is a desperate measure.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Yes - but that's not just the players!

We've been at this level for over a season and apart from the last month, the majority have coped admirably - why now are such cracks showing?

Must be true then, as a rumour is "a report of uncertain or doubtful truth!"

Agree it is knee-jerk assume we bring in contracted players outside of the transfer window? Otherwise we are going to be replacing with free agents / non-contracted players.

As are we as a club. The thought of getting promoted this season is frightening. Thank goodness it won't happen.

I bet someone has seen MG say "players will be leaving" and "8 or 9 players didn't turn up today" then put 2 and 2 together. I doubt 8 players will be leaving.

All well and good saying that 8 players might be leaving, but unless he's got 8 better players to replace them with then its a pretty pointless exercise. Also if we have this massive re-haul then it'll take time for these new players to gel. Agree that the squad needs a refresh as some players clearly aren't up to standard (Caton, Thomo) or look like they can't be arsed (Gillies) unless we have suitable replacements lined up then its pointless.

Probably we need to ship some players before new one's are brought in.

What we need to do is suck it up. These players beat Salford, drew with a very good York side, what we need is the manager to do his job and get the best out of the squad we have.

Maybe he means that the club will listen to,and accept, any reasonable offers for players.
