Gateshead 1-1 Darlington
First half: Bartlett; Hunter, Collins, Brown, Ferguson; Syers, Richards, Scott; Cartman, Fenwick, Gillies (4-3-3)
Team that finished the second half: Bartlett; Marrs, Collins, Galbraith, Ferguson; Thompson, Syers, Wheatley, Gillies; Fenwick, Saunders (4-4-2)
More than matched - and probably should have beaten - a strong Gateshead side. After 20 minutes we looked the better side.
Wheatley & Fenwick were particularly impressive - and I would be surprised if Gray doesn't make a move to sign both.

Re: Gateshead 1-1 Darlington
Not too sure about the first half personally. We worked hard enough but I felt Gateshead looked solid and organised and we didn't get many chances. They hit the bar, scored their goal and probably should have had another before half time.
Second half though I thought we played well. Controlled it for long stretches and barely gave Gateshead a sniff. The goal was well deserved and we hit the bar late on. Felt the substitutions we made improved us. We face a bit of a dilemma now because based on pre-season I would have those trialsts… which means we’d have to move some players on.

Yes - my OP probably should have read that we weren't in it for the first 20, up to HT however we matched them. Second half we were the better side.TFDM wrote:Not too sure about the first half personally. We worked hard enough but I felt Gateshead looked solid and organised and we didn't get many chances. Strong second half performance last night and arguably should have won.
Fenwick and Wheatley are the standouts of the trialists and I'd look to bring in both.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Carts has to stay so do not envy MG if he has to release one or two, always really tough with what these lads have given us.

Re: Gateshead 1-1 Darlington
To get a draw at a strong Gateshead side, who went close to the play-offs last season shows what a good side we have. Guiseley on Saturday will be a good indication of how far we've come and what the forthcoming season holds for us.
Re: Gateshead 1-1 Darlington
surely you can't just release someone who has signed a 2 year contract. We'd have to pay. Plus whilst I'm not as big a fan of Cartman as some, I still think he has a lot to offer when playing 4-4-2. If we are trying 3 up front I don't think it suits him. But IMO he has to stay both for financial and footballing reasons

You sell them?D_F_C wrote:surely you can't just release someone who has signed a 2 year contract. We'd have to pay.
Re: Gateshead 1-1 Darlington
You could, but surely if we need to adhere to a 1 in 1 out type scenario we need to ensure we have the outgoing player off the books first?lo36789 wrote:You sell them?D_F_C wrote:surely you can't just release someone who has signed a 2 year contract. We'd have to pay.

Isn't that what we did with Gaskell a year ago?D_F_C wrote:surely you can't just release someone who has signed a 2 year contract.
