blackwell meadows
Had a few mates in the military they have ask if they think the stadium will be ready for the Salford home game on the 3rd. They are on training exercise at cattrick the week before.
I've told them probably wont be back in darlo for that time. What does anyone else think?

Re: blackwell meadows
The home game against Salford on Saturday 3rd December is the game the club are targeting as the first game back at home.
Suppose it all depends how the contractors are doing. If they are on schedule then that is the game that has been targeted as being the first game back in Darlo.

Re: blackwell meadows
The club hasn't said anything about our first match back in Darlo.
Re: blackwell meadows
Can't see it, myself. Another factor you may need to include is that the interest in the first match back will be very high and so whatever match it is, could be all-ticket, so may need locals to sort out a ticket or even get them to join the Supporters Group.Neil_Heaneys_Pace wrote:Had a few mates in the military they have ask if they think the stadium will be ready for the Salford home game on the 3rd. Re: blackwell meadows
It's a rumour that has been going round, not heard it from anyone at the club. I can imagine the club may have set something like this as a target but no point coming out with it, they would be slated if some delays come along and they missed the date.Robbie Painter wrote:That is news to me. Steel element is supposed to be erected early October for the tin shed, which I presume is another general knowledge/rumour going round.
I do enjoy going up to BM every week to see the changes and you can see it develop over time.

When's the seated stand and tinshed terrace going in?

Re: blackwell meadows
Not heard anything yet, but you can see the change every week, Rugby Club are working on with the changes to the club house that are required.Quakerz wrote:When's the seated stand and tinshed terrace going in?
Nothing much looks like it has changed since the foundations were put in.
Pitch looks pretty good at the moment, although not surprised with the summer we have had.
Re: blackwell meadows
Does the pitch look good because it is not being used whilst construction is going on around it (ELF and Safety and all that)?super_les_mcjannet wrote:Not heard anything yet, but you can see the change every week, Rugby Club are working on with the changes to the club house that are required.Quakerz wrote:When's the seated stand and tinshed terrace going in?

Re: blackwell meadows
Had a walk down this afternoon and although the fencing around the ground is up, the Tin Shed footings done, contractors working on the clubhouse and pitch in good fettle, there is still a lot of the major work to be done, no sign of the steels etc. Dec 3 just doesn't look feasible and I don't think the club ever planned that it would be ready then. Would be a great Christmas present to have it ready for Boxing Day, but even then it depends very much on the weather over the next few weeks.jjljks wrote:Can't see it, myself. Re: blackwell meadows
I don't believe the pitch is in good condition, it might just look it from a far. I played on the pitch in early summer and it was shocking! Sandy, patchy, little stones on it and it was far from flat with undulations that you feel when you're running. I was speaking with people from DRFC last Saturday and one mentioned the pitch is poor.

Re: blackwell meadows
The pitch sounds a bit like Feethams early in the season, it looks good from a distance, but up close it was poor. It doesn't surprise me to hear the pitch at BM isn't going to be great, as far as I know minimal work has been done to it since the end of the rugby season and now it's too late to do anything major to it.liddle_4_ever wrote:I don't believe the pitch is in good condition, it might just look it from a far. Re: blackwell meadows
To be fair it was called out at the start of the summer only minimal work was needed to be done on it. It's not that it's too late to do anything major and active decision was taken not to do anything major.Darlo_Pete wrote:It doesn't surprise me to hear the pitch at BM isn't going to be great, as far as I know minimal work has been done to it since the end of the rugby season and now it's too late to do anything major to it.
Who knows could be marginal gains. A bit of rolling, a bit more grass, a bit more water, a bit of rest and there is a decent overall gain made.
Re: blackwell meadows
The difficulty with improving the quality of the pitch is that it is impossible to do so whilst building work is being completed on the perimeter, as this will all affect the water table, access for light and quality of the soil, etc.
The pitch has to go in last if we want a good one in the longer term.

Re: blackwell meadows
They could re-turf, it but that would be expensive. It's too late to re-seed it. I reckon they'll just play with it as it is and do major work on it in the close season next year.
Re: blackwell meadows
Spot on about the state of the pitch. I didn't get close enough to walk on it let alone kick a ball, but the grass is lush and hiding the imperfections. Workmen and machines will be trampling all over it during the next few weeks so wouldn't be possible to do the necessary work this year during the growing season. Would just be wasting money if we tried to sort anything before April 2017. We shall just have to exercise some patience, something Quaker fans are not known for!

Re: blackwell meadows
I suppose the club was targeting for the FA Cup 1st round proper.
Concrete (un-treated) takes 21 days to cure, so we may be getting pretty close to a short spell of steel erecting, to minimise crane hire.
It seems the drainage and "essential" re-seeding were sensibly postponed to next Summer, but I suppose some localised patching may be worthwhile.
Hand erection of sheet cladding and advertising hoardings shouldn't take too long, especially if club uses a few volunteer crews.
We'll get a better idea of the work remaining and opening date at the Oct 7th forum.

What is this hand erection that doesn't take long? Hope nobody is taking picturesNeil Johnson wrote:I suppose the club was targeting for the FA Cup 1st round proper.

Steel work will start next week. Seats on route from China
Re: blackwell meadows
With regard to the pitch, Martin Gray wants Gary Ventress to work on it. However there has been disagreements with the current groundsman who doesnt seem to want to take advice from someone who has worked on pitches for premier league teams. I think this is likely to cause problems in the future as its one thing having a field suitable for rugby and another having something thats a good enough standard for both sports especially at the level we are at. You just have to look at what happened when the chimp chokers shared with their rugby club and the mess that made of a pitch where the ground staff didnt have a clue what to do.
