Virgin Trains Deal

Post by DarloDean » Mon Aug 01, 2016 9:04 pm

See an official deal has been made. Watch this if you wish, just been put up.

My question is, can I use this deal as well as using the discount with my Railcard? If so, that would be very beneficial.

This would be even more handy for me alongside my 16-25 railcard, bigger discounts. Happy days

These are the terms on the Virgin site...

Have I missed something?

2. Discount is available on First Class and Standard Class Virgin Trains East Coast Advance fares only and valid on services operated on the East Coast Mainline from Darlington
3. Tickets are available for booking online from 1 August 2016 until 31 May 2016. Please ensure the booking window is open and valid for the date you intend to travel.
4. It’s not valid in conjunction with any other offers or with Railcard discounts
5. The offer is not valid during the following dates:
26 - 29 August 2016
21 - 30 October 2016
17 December - 2 January 2017
17 – 26 February 2017

Dates wrong for a start, will see what I can find out, some very busy dates have been excluded which is understandable should also state services to and from Darlington surely?

Yes it does cover the return journey, all being changed in due course.

2. Discount is available on First Class and Standard Class Virgin Trains East Coast Advance fares only and valid on services operated on the East Coast Mainline to and from Darlington
3. Tickets are available for booking online from 1 August 2016 until 31 May 2017. Please ensure the booking window is open and valid for the date you intend to travel.

Ahh shame. Could of had a whopping 55% of my tickets, guess my 25% is rather redundant for myself.

Still, very useful for 100's of other fans.

Happy days.

But surely most of the games would have been ineligible anyway as they aren't on the east cost main line?!

I don't think the point of the offer is necessarily to get fans to use trains to go to games (although London exiles coming to Darlo will hopefully find it handy) more to attract fans and crucially the wider community of Darlington to use the train in general for travel on the east coast and to generate interest in the football club / supporters group for those that may not already be.

Exactly...a DFCSG membership may pay for itself for a number of people!

Just had a "Bloke" look at the offer on Virgin Trains East Coast site, so I've probably missed something, but it asks for your e mail address then to insert the promotional code which is shown on the card you received...

I've got no promotional code on my 500 ticket....

I've got a membership number on my DFSG card... is it that ?

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Yes the code is "darlo" but be aware you must have a valid season ticket / DFC 500 club membership card with you when you travel and photo ID with the same name as the ticket or you will be charged full fare.

The DFCSG has not yet sent out any membership cards for this offer so please don't try to travel with a DFCSG membership until you receive a new 2016/17 season card with Virgin logo

...

That is not mentioned in the Virgin terms and conditions online! Might be worth taking a copy of the page of terms and conditions if you do travel without ID

Or just travel with the valid ID and save yourself the hassle of printing out terms and conditions just be a pain in the ass.

It's not necessary to have photo ID, as not everyone has photo ID.

Surely if it's part of the T and Cs of Virgin to have photo ID then you have to have photo ID?

Not that it says that on the website as far as I can see, although I'd imagine divas will know the deal. If photo ID is needed, then someone should let Virgin know to update their website to avoid any issues!

Maybe that condition has been shelved then but it was certainly something that was being discussed, otherwise the offer is open to abuse.

It looks to me like the Virgin website hasn't quite been updated yet fully - the title of the website still says "Darlington v Newcastle United promotion"

Anyway, a good deal - will save some decent money for anyone who travels to London even once!

Most games are off the East Coast route to London. Tickets for part of the journey are available, but fans would have to change tickets at York. Hopefully some away Cup fixtures may be en-route.

Shame that London based & other exiles can't travel North for home games on this deal.

Some fans may be encouraged to undertake non-football trips, but it's a bit limited when not being applicable on the full Virgin Trains network.

FFS ! I've put my e mail in and entered Darlo as the promotion code and am now getting the following....

"The details provided are either not valid or the limit has been reached. Please select continue to proceed without applying the promotion."

Me and technology just don't go together !
