a couple more players by the weekend ??

Post by fanforlife » Mon Aug 01, 2016 11:46 am

according to the boss "we have got our eye on another 1 or 2 that we may sign before the start of the season. they are around the club and we like what we see. if there is a possibility we will definitely be doing something".

Don't know where we are short of players. Have to admit that I'm surprised that we are looking at more players, unless they are better than what we already have.

Where has this been posted? Can't see anything on the Official Website/The Northern Echo?

22, but a long-term injury with Arran Wearmouth who may not feature until March/April. Without knowing the details Hunter may be out for a few weeks once he has had his operation on his knee done.

Goalkeepers: Peter Jameson, Mark Bell

Defenders: Liam Marrs, Chris Hunter, Gary Brown, Kevin Burgess, Jordan Watson, Terry Galbraith

Midfielders: Adam Mitchell, Lewis Nightingale, Tom Portas, Phil Turnbull, Leon Scott, Adam Nowakowski, Josh Gillies, Stephen Thompson, Arran Wearmouth

Forwards: Mark Beck, Nathan Cartman, Amar Purewal, Lee Gaskell, Liam Hardy

You would struggle to see where we could improve, but then again I didn't see Gray bringing in Gillies & Beck. Maybe a defender?

This is that time of summer where free agents get released from their trials at full-time clubs and start to filter their way down.

I'd be surprised if we brought anyone else in as the squad seems quite packed and its going to be a struggle to keep everyone happy, but that's a job for the management, however if they get the opportunity to improve the squad and it fits in line with the clubs finances then maybe there could be another couple of new faces, if that was the case though i'd expect to see a couple leave.... and no doubt end up at Spenny!

It wouldn't surprise me if he picks up Scott Harrison if Hartlepool don't offer him a contract.

Along with Harrison Scott. Keep it interesting.
For you to insult me, I must first value your opinion.

Has Leon Scott been involved much in the friendlies? I saw some thing on his twitter that he was guest of honour at some club night in Bournemouth, so is he getting much more modelling work or something? Hope he sticks about, he came on a long way last season.

I suppose defence is the only area we could feasibly add someone.

Yes, I'd probably put him in the same bracket as our other youth-team players (Lovegreen & Saunders). We probably won't see much of them this season. I should imagine that if Jameson gets injured then we will bring in another goalkeeper. I believe that the transfer windows at this level have been abolished so you can now sign new players up until the 31st March.

I'd say that centre half is one area where we could potentially strengthen, especially with Hunter suspended for this first 2 games and then under-going a knee operation. You then have to start looking at Galbraith and Nowakowksi as cover should either Brown or Burgess become injured/suspended.

My opinion

I thought that Jordan Watson was a CB who could play at LB (not the other way round) though he has featured at LB in the friendlies..I could be wrong though

Primarily a left-back who can cover centre-back, but I don't believe that he has played at centre-back often.

Only the defence could realistically be strengthened... With only 6, you pick up even one injury and it starts to look a bit thin...

Maybe a young lad, who doesn't expect to play week in week out might be the answer. It's hard to suggest names at this level though.

I was thinking that too, defence was a bit of problem last season when we had a few injuries early on / Hunter sent off.

Yes, we had a back 4 of Callaghan-Galbraith-Scott-Gibbons at one point last season. A far cry from Galbraith-Brown-Burgess-Hunter!

Hardly's easy opposition for them that day either as they were up against 2 former FL forwards in Justin Richards and Karl Hawley.

Galbraith has been superb at centre-half.

Scott Harrison looks set to say at Hartlepool after impressing Hignett during pre-season.

Not yet, but he won't be coming to Darlo. More likely Gateshead but he wants a club higher up the pyramid.

Gaskell going is a concern, but maybe he can be replaced to some extent by the extra attacking midfielders signed contributing with more goals.

Scope for a young loan striker to come in for 30min run outs?

We have 4 strikers, and I'd be surprised if Gray let Gaskell go and replaced him with a young forward on loan.

Looks like your going to be surprised then as he has left today

Think you may have misinterpreted that - DF97 stated he'd be surprised if MG let Gaskell go and replaced him with a young un on loan. Implying he wouldn't let him go then replace him, rather than he wouldn't let him go.

I think?!

That's the top and bottom of it Mullet69.

I'd be surprised if Gray let Gaskell go and replaced him with a young forward on loan. As Gaskell is clearly a very good player and I think we'd struggle to find a young forward on loan of the same calibre.

If that makes sense?!

Perhaps Mourinho wants us to take Ibrahimovitch on loan until he is match fit and used to UK? ;-)
