Shola Ameobi
Released from Fleetwood, in talks with both Darlo and Gateshead apparently...

34 years old and only one goal in 10 appearances for his last club Fleetwood Town, is hardly pulling up trees is it? Plus surely he'll want to play full-time?

No thanks
Re: Shola Ameobi
Would he offer the same physical presence as Armstrong?
I'm not sure he'd have the desire to be honest.

Re: Shola Ameobi
That's interesting. Depends on what we could offer versus what he would want out of the deal but I've heard it said a few times (like Alan Pardew said, here) that Shola's presence off the field is just as important as when he's on it. Exactly the sort of group player that MG would appreciate, I would have thought.
At his age I think he'll have one eye on whatever he's going to do when his playing days are over so maybe there's some sort of coaching role he could take on.
At this level I wouldn't like to see Darlo face up to a team with him on the other side.

Re: Shola Ameobi
to be honest there isn't much risk. If he doesn't do very well we can just offload him to Spennymoor.

Would be a great signing, can lead on and off the field
Re: Shola Ameobi
Our next Marco Gabbiadini perhaps ?

Re: Shola Ameobi
Potentially one of the most racist remarks ever - or a serious over estimation of Shola Ameobi's abilities as a footballer!?

Re: Shola Ameobi
I didn't see that as racist. more drawing a parallel with another highly paid ex Newcastle player. although I can't see Ameobi jumping on a plane to south America to escape signing for us.
us signing him may get more people through the turnstiles - initial curiosity could turn to longer term higher attendances if he scored a fair few goals.....he'd have to be prepared to be paid a non league wage though.

I don't see any similarities except they both played for Newcastle and they both play up front.RUMPLESTILTSKIN wrote:No explanation is needed.Spyman wrote:Explain?norwich darlo wrote:Shola Ameobi =Faustino Asprilla= no thanks

Potentially racist ?? Care to explain why ....lo36789 wrote:Potentially one of the most racist remarks ever - or a serious over estimation of Shola Ameobi's abilities as a footballer!?
My interpretation of norwich darlo's post is that they are both ex big name players past their sell by date.

+ they are both black with shaved hair + they both scored for Newcastle against Barcelona...Spyman wrote:I don't see any similarities except they both played for Newcastle and they both play up front.RUMPLESTILTSKIN wrote:No explanation is needed.Spyman wrote:Explain?norwich darlo wrote:Shola Ameobi =Faustino Asprilla= no thanks
my comment about the racist bit was tongue in cheek. On reflection it didn't look/come across that way.
As Spyman said there are very few things in terms of style of play, quality, career history or attitude which makes them remotely alike.
Re: Shola Ameobi
I believe he has been approached by Gateshead... Is there any real evidence that Darlo have?
Or are people just debating another rumour of a player with NE links ?
Unless of course someone has been walking their dog & saw him outside ( add wherever our base is these days ... if we have one ) one of our grounds

I can see the similarity - one's grew up in a gun-toting drug-infested place and the other's from Columbia
