Virgin Trains
Re: Virgin Trains
Great job by all concerned, and good that individual fans can get something out of it if the rail ticket discount comes off. Perhaps Virgin should go all the way (as it were) and reinstate football specials for away games - they didn't all get trashed and we don't have a single troublemaker among our fans.

Re: Virgin Trains
The railway works in a very different way post privatisation. A football special would work under open access, whereas Virgin EC is a franchise.Alfie wrote:Great job by all concerned, and good that individual fans can get something out of it if the rail ticket discount comes off. I'll gloss over the troublemaker comment. frankly unless we got to Wembley, a club our size couldn't justify hiring an entire train. It costs thousands of pounds. An East Coast train can take 600+ passengers. Sadly not an option.
Cracking news though.

Like the purple shirt.
Branson may be in league with us, but he's no way in charge of us.
I suppose the club can now pay for the improved drainage with their already increased income from Fans, Sponsors & Evo-Stik. The drainage work must be the driver for BM not being ready for the season start.
We could do with some constant inspection (DFC DRFC volunteers?) of the drainage work to check that it is carried out to specification, before each section gets buried.
Drainage systems have failed us so many times, so correct design and installation is essential at BM.

Steady on lads, did you read the entire article on the club website? The last line says " The new kit will be available at the end of May".
Do you believe that? This is Darlo after all. Maybe the whole thing is a wind up.

Are you for real? Asking for people to go onto a construction and tell people who are paid to do the job that they may not be doing it correctly? I know you post some right old shite now and again but this takes the piss!Neil Johnson wrote:

Take my hat off to the Directors for bringing this deal off, it will surely help get other sponsors on board a truly amazing deal by Tempest & Cook.

We were sponsored by DONN for a short time. However, they didn't pay up so their name was removed after a few games. I'm not sure if this was before, or after Ken Warne Supermarkets though.Quakers1883 wrote:I'm not sure how accurate the Historical Kits site is as I've never been able to confirm the Donn shirt sponsor, maybe someone with programmes from around the time can confirm this? by referring to old programmes is how I know the Ken Warne sponsor is correct.Mr_Tibbs wrote:First one seems to be "DONN" from 1982?? Interesting that they have our 1976 kit made by Litesome, I've never heard of that company before.

I expect there are more local sponsorships that are already agreed, but with their announcements being postponed until Darlo are selling season tickets and pushing out pre-season publicity.

Special Season Ticket Holder discounts for Gloucester & Worcester away games may be popular. Weekend trains are generally less populated, so heavily discounted tickets are more likely.banktopp wrote:Brilliant news.

According to Irish mythology, Donn, or the Dark One, is the Lord of the Dead and father of Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, whom he gave to Aengus Óg to be nurtured. Donn is regarded as the father of the Irish race; a position similar to that of Dis Pater and the Gauls, as noted by Julius Caesar.Quakers1883 wrote:Does anyone remember who or what Donn is?Lawman3 wrote:We were sponsored by DONN for a short time. A superb bit of work by the club. Well done. A brand owned by two multinational companies wants to sponsor our club. Fantastic. Now on to the wibble fest:
Perhaps Mr Soutar or Ms Gloag would be a better target for your ire.
Any discount will be on VTEC advance tickets only for their trains. That is in itself a good incentive!
GodAlmighty wrote:I see that Darlo have sold their soul to the devil. I'm very disappointed. I hope the club were paid handsomely for this.
You do know that Branson is the devil incarnate?
Virgin Rail Group own 10% of Virgin East Coast. The other 90% is owned by Stagecoach. (Virgin own 51% of Virgin Rail Group with Stagecoach owning 49%)Neil Johnson wrote:Branson may be in league with us, but he's no way in charge of us.

I was trying to work out how many grips from London it would take before a season ticket pays for itself. Only half a dozen I reckon.

I'd assume any discount would be for season ticket holders only (at least any significant discount). Its hard to imagine a £20 membership entitling you to much but you never know.Mr_Tibbs wrote:Even better value if DFCSG members get the same deal.MKDarlo wrote:If the deal is the same as Carlisle and Preston it is really good value.Spyman wrote:I was trying to work out how many grips from London it would take before a season ticket pays for itself. Do we have a shirt sponsor yet for next season?
Answer: John Tempest is awaiting to sign the agreement and this should be announced next week. Without saying who it is, it will not only benefit the Season Ticket Holders and members of the DFCSG but potentially drive many within the Darlington community to be new members of the DFCSG due to the nature of the overall sponsorship deal.

Re: Virgin Trains
I think that would be the most sensible thing to do. I know the details of the benefits are still being ironed out so nothing's set in stone yet.Spyman wrote:Perhaps a tiered discount with bigger savings for season ticket holders.
On a side note it's good to report that we've had a few new members joining the Supporters Group using the new online form (click the link in my signature to see it). We may use a similar form for renewals this year and, hopefully, any benefit from the new sponsorship deal will help encourage a higher proportion of existing members to renew than did last year. Perhaps even early renewals in return for a better discount on the trains would be worth considering to help swell the coffers ahead of the new season?
There isn't actually a target number of members we're trying to hit (I think it was actually myself who suggested a thousand by the start of the season) but with the greater demand for a limited number of tickets for some of the big games in the coming season then secondary ticketing priority (after season ticket holders) for DFCSG members could provide another good reason for fans to sign up.
