Blyth V Workington

See, Wearmouth has not made the starting 11 or the bench, was hoping to see him take part.

Just seen the Workington third goal by Allison, quite a finish for your hatrick.

From the video clips, it doesn't look like a massive crowd. Looks a good 300 from Workington have made the trip over.

FT Salford 1-1 Ashton going to extra time.

Blyth could've had a penalty at the death but lost 4-3

Pitchero says 4-4 and even has highlights of Blyth's 4th goal. Only when you watch it, it isn't a goal. That is outrageously s***.

Haha that is amazingly bad. They had a big penalty shout right at the end, but no goal!

Absolutely gutted for Blyth.

Horrible way to go out after being top for so long but if they hadn't have lost tonight they could well have lost to Salford in the final.

I will be keeping tabs on them next season.

Gutted for Blyth. We all remember what it is like to come second and then lose at the first hurdle. But hopefully they'll bounce back next season like we did after we lost against Ramsbottom a few years back. On a positive note it should mean we get Wearmouth.

Likewise, and the result sums up my problem with play offs in general. The league table tells us that over 46 games Blyth were the second best team in our division, but they have lost out on promotion to a team that finished 13 points behind them in a one-off game. It just doesn't sit right with me.

The arguments for play offs are strong and sensible - money spinner (for the home teams at least), and they give teams quite a way down the table something to play for right up to March/April. But by that token why not have relegation play offs too then? That would keep the season interesting for all the teams in the division right up to the end. If a team who didn't merit it over 46 games can be promoted via a one-off game (or two one-off games, if you know what I mean) why can't a team who didn't deserve it be relegated in the same way? The outcry would be huge, of course: "that's unfair. If you finish outside the bottom 2 (or 3 or 4, or whatever your division's relegation zone is) you shouldn't be relegated." If that's unfair then it's equally unfair that a team who finishes 5th, many points off the promotion spots, gets a chance for promotion.

Totally logical and reasoned.

However most clubs views are simple, regardless of which level

Promotion: the road to riches: hence the positive
Relegation: the road to ruin: hence the negative

Turkeys will never vote to for Christmas , let alone extend the festive season.

We all know, too well, the nature of the beast. It is what it is though. Its a part of the English football landscape and wont change as harsh as it is.

In a one match situation it is a little bit like when QPR beat Derby in the playoff final. Derby bossed the game from start to 89th and QPR scored on a counter from nothing. Thats why we love football. Just pleased Darlo havent given us such drama this season.
