We know we are down. We have 8 points. Teams don't stay up from this position.

Paying those three off is because they are no good, that is it.

Yes - we were coming to that conclusion on another thread.

I hope the DDSG have got their autographed shirt from Mr Knight ;)

Three crap Todd signings out then. And more money down the drain. Fantastic.

Flip I'm sure they won't be the last either. I suppose Staunton is making room for more players to come in next month. Presumably though any money used to pay off players will be coming out of the playing budget.

As crap as knight is i'd rather have had him back up to Liversedge, I can't remember bennett is being that long since hes played and plummer was abysmal well infact all 3 of them were in truth.

It's the National Insurance that will trigger the saving if they are paid a lump. There is a cap on the base rate and above that ceiling it's only 1% for the employees and a bit more for the employers. So everyone wins.

In 1989/90 we had 9 points at Christmas and stayed up (easily as welll we ended up with 55 points) you just need to find a modern day Cyril Knowles!

Especially considering you were regularly losing games 6-0 before the Knowles revolution.

I remember another time when you had a small points total at Christmas. about 1983 ? and I think you managed to turn it around then as well

As PJ said, we recovered from this, it can be done. But I'm afraid that Staunton isn't a Sir Cyril Knowles, god rest his soul.

But to be fair, you were 1 point from safety on that table. We are 11. Not that I'm not saying it wasn't an achievement to get out of that particular predicament.

October 84 and 1 nil. I think it was our only home defeat that year.

They agree to take a percentage of their remaining wages. Its a gamble, but if they find another club, or more likely with this bunch, get a job outside football soon after their release they are quids in.

Someone I know was at loggerheads with her employer, but was on a lucrative fixed term contract. She agreed to take 60% of the remaining money to leave. She quickly found another job, so both parties benefited. It works outside football too.

That was before automatic relegation though, we finished 2nd bottom, and beat Maidstone by 10 votes for re-election.

Oh - the days of re-election. Purpose made for Reynolds and Houghton and their dodgy deals.

But walshy said "year" not "season". The "year" was 1984, and the "season" was 84/85. We lost to Pools in 1984.

I'm not saying Walshy is right mind, I don't think that has ever happened.

What? That you've only lost at home once in a year/season, or Walshy being right about something?

Feel sorry for Bennett. He has hardly had a look in under either Todd or Staunton

Agreed. When he played out of position on the left against Grimsby and Rochdale I thought he showed a bit of promise. Anyway, irrelevant now. As far as the money goes, these departures will save a few quid, but I would guess they are the lowest earners, so it's no windfall. If SS wants some money to play with to bring in some experience, he needs to move on some senior players (Arnison, Convery, Foster etc as they will earn 2-3 times as much as the youngsters) but assuming they have kids and a mortgage to pay this will be much harder to achieve.
