Rushall versus Darlington

Post by Mario » Sun Apr 24, 2016 2:00 pm

It wasn't a big surprise to see Darlington looking a bit leg-weary yesterday. Several of the players looked extremely tired and short of energy after a hectic end to the season. Some of the Darlington players looked off the pace especially in the first half, but credit to them they kept going to the end.

It wasn't a great game to watch with both teams opting for the long ball game on a surface where it was almost impossible to pass it around on the deck.

Rushall looked sharper in the first half and their 4-5-1 formation negated Darlington in midfield. Rushall gave the likes of Scott, Portas and particularly Thomson no time on the ball and were quick into the tackle as soon as a Darlo player tried to put his foot on the ball.

The Rushall goal was a needless goal to give away. It came from a corner that Jamieson should have stopped with better communication from him. Other than that Rushall worked hard but didn't create a lot.

Darlington were better in the second half and Thomson and Purewal missed clear cut chances to level. The passes weren't quite going where they were intended and it seemed like one of those days.

The Rushall centre half (number 5) was outstanding whilst I thought Mitchell was probably Darlington's best player.

It's been a brilliant season but the 4-3-3 formation may need tweaking next season or the better teams will overrun us in midfield and get at us down the flanks.
