Scoreboard for Blackwell
Scoreboard for Blackwell
It would be a good idea to have a scoreboard at Blackwell. If anyone hasn't already thought of this idea.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
Yes, I often lose track of the score during games.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

What a waste of money that would be.
Not needed, other things that have priority.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
Main things first of course. Thought it could be a good addition to Blackwell.

We should have a wall at the entrance to Blackwell or as part of the new stand where you can purchase a brick for X amount of money. Brick has your name or whatever engraved on it. Offer it fans of both Clubs and it's a decent money maker.

Unless it's used for advertising.
(And then that would have to be costed to make sure it's worthwhile)

Scoreboard for Blackwell
Every rugby club I've been to has a scoreboard so not such a stupid idea.....(if you've ever been to a high scoring game it does actually come in useful) only ones where you manually hang the score up so no cost involved in my opinion.. The football club doesn't have to use it but could benefit from any potenial sponsor on it...

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
I was thinking the same as the later posters.
Don't put people off from throwing ideas up in the air - you can get little manual ones with space for sponsor's names... like this...
P.S. I used to forget the score too - but only (for some reason) while I was actually playing football.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
I suppose it's even feasible to hook a big flatscreen TV up to a computer and turn it round to face out the window in the club house - that could be put to good use for getting a bit more sponsorship in?
The rugby club were asking for help with setting something up to show live games in the club house, would be great if they could put the telly near the window - they could use it for the same thing.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
Matlock had a decent portable electric scoreboard which was also used for advertising. So you keep up to date on the score and it also becomes a revenue stream long term.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
If you dont know the score you can ask someone.
Rather have some more seats instead. Not a sitter myself, but lots will want seats.
I suggested the bricks earlier to DFCSG by their contact form. Opportune timing for smaller / company fundraising when building is due to be carried out.
underway.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
I like the bricks idea too.
I was also wondering today whether there would be any call for getting some of those shirts specially printed with people's names on - maybe everyone's names who's put in to the Community Share scheme.
I was thinking this instead of share certificates for those people who might club together to buy shares, like footifan's mates in Texas who might not want to join the DFCSG (just pitch in with the fundraising).
Maybe the DFCSG could create a "Group Membership" option so people like that could still pitch in without having to join as individual members, but still be able to get something to hang on their wall... or wear (in the case of footifan's mates then maybe a commemorative polo shirt might be better, so they can play golf in them)?

Suggested a simple donation scheme at the BM Forum with a plaque / certificate for the fundraisers to hang up on display (in pubs, clubs, small businesses).Mr_Tibbs wrote:I like the bricks idea too.

Re: Scoreboard for Blackwell
Being a Swansea and Darlo fan.
I once went to a game down the Vetch I think it was Macclesfield arrived a couple of minutes late then watched the what I thought was the dullest 0 0 ever.
It was only in the pub after the game i found out they scored in the first minute.
So I think a scoreboard would be a great idea.

It would be cheaper to buy you a watch. Lol.Darlojack66 wrote:Being a Swansea and Darlo fan.

We'd all love the luxuries. But the fact is we're still very much metaphorically crawling, and the cost to buy and run would be much better spent else where.
There are lots of good ideas on paper that need a pin put in them. But that's not to say they're not aspirationally valid.

I was thinking more along the lines of us all chipping in for one we could get the stadium announcer to work when he's doing nothing...dickdarlington wrote:It would be cheaper to buy you a watch. Lol.Darlojack66 wrote:Being a Swansea and Darlo fan.

Good idea! You only get to know what match "G" is by buying a programmeDarlo_Pete wrote:What's wrong with the old letters and half-time scores done by some kids?

Joking aside I think with the mobile phones these days, it's pretty easy to find out all the scores you want, so making scoreboards redundant.

How things change. Do you remember when the bookies had a guy with a spirit pen & a wipeboard giving the odds?Darlojack66 wrote:Yes I remember them days and old wooden board with a guy with a ladder and about ten of us trying to look at someones programme.

I guess that explains why when they built Wembley they installed huge scoreboards...Darlo_Pete wrote:Joking aside I think with the mobile phones these days, it's pretty easy to find out all the scores you want, so making scoreboards redundant.
