Comments in current full league table order, Top 9 games, played, outstanding etc

Blyth 14 played, remaining fixtures Home to Rushall & Workington.
0-1 home loss to Halesowen, huge upset to a lower half of the table opponent. Darlington with 4 games in hand now have a 7 points gap to overcome with superior goal difference. The Workington home game is clearly a tough game, all other games recently have looked winnable but Blyth have struggled, future games also look winnable.

Darlington, 12 played, remaining fixtures Home to Nantwich & Rushall, Away at Nantwich & Rushall.
5-0 away win at Matlock. A comfortable win in front of the Quaker legend Les McJannet, the Quakers rise to 2nd place, the Blyth gap in 4 days has shrunk 6 points to 7 with 4 games in hand, all of the games against the Top 6 opponents are completed.

Salford 13 played, remaining fixtures Home to Nantwich, Away at Ashton & Stourbridge.
1-3 away loss at Skelmersdale, the up and down form continues for Salford. Top 9 best opponent to play, away at Stourbridge.

Workington 11 played, remaining fixtures Home to Rushall & Stourbridge, Away at Ashton, Blyth & Nantwich.
3-0 away win at Ilkeston, an important victory after just 1 point in previous last 3 games, Workington stay in 4th place, now tied on points with Salford. Barwell's loss today was welcome for Workington.

Stourbridge, 12 played, remaining fixtures Home to Ashton & Salford, Away at Ashton & Workington.
1-1 home draw with Frickley, they rise to 5th place with Barwell losing. Home game with Salford, away game at Workington are big games to be played.

Barwell, 13 played, remaining fixtures Home to Ashton, Away at Nantwich & Rushall.
0-2 away loss at Ashton, their win streak ends against a team also chasing a playoff place. Barwell have no Top 6 games left to play.

Ashton, 9 played, remaining fixtures Home to Salford, Stourbridge & Workington, Away at Barwell, Nantwich, Rushall & Stourbridge.
2-0 home win over Barwell, a huge win over an inform Barwell. 7 of their 12 remaining games are against Top 9 opponents, the home games against Salford, Workington & Stourbridge can determine if Ashton can get into the top 5.

Rushall 9 played, remaining fixtures Home to Ashton, Barwell & Darlington, Away at Blyth, Darlington, Nantwich & Workington.
No game today. 9 points behind 5th place Stourbridge.

Nantwich, 9 played, remaining fixtures Home to Ashton, Barwell, Darlington, Rushall & Workington, Away at Darlington & Salford.
No game tonight. Now 14 points behind 5th place Stourbridge with a league fixture backlog and cup games to play.

My top 5 to win the league, make the playoffs, as of today.
1) Darlington, the 4 striker rotation is working, the team is remaining healthy and winning games. Todays win and Blyth's loss tipped the balance in Darlington's favour.
2) Blyth, the points lead is shrinking to 7, Darlington have 4 games in hand.
3) Stourbridge, Salford are holding 3rd place because of extra games played, Stourbridge should pass them.
4) Salford, pursued by Workington and Barwell for 4th, but the remaining fixtures look to be tougher than Barwell's.
5) Workington, their win today restores a 3 points lead
5) Barwell, an easier fixture list compared to Workington
.. Ashton, need to continue winning games in hand and beat Top 9 opponents.

My current forecast for the playoff games
Blyth...... vs Workington / Barwell
Stourbridge vs Salford

A thought

The fixture backlog for Darlington is still a concern but Blyth not winning is shrinking the points gap with 4 games to play. It's an excited feeling that must be with Darlington fans, the Championship is becoming more possible with each week.

It's a 2 horse race now and the bookies agree, 14/1 for Workington and Salford are 33/1.

Ginge it's great to see you have as going up as Champions. It's not us that are buckling under the pressure of all these games.

Still plenty of tough games left Pete, let's not get carried away we could put a performance in like at Stourbridge, so 1 game at a time...

Today went about as well as we could have hoped for. Us being ahead of Salford with four games in hand should make it a straight fight between us and Blyth for the title.

We're in a good position - games in hand and the only two sides in Ginge's top 9 we've still to play are both realistically out of play-off contention.

But one game at a time is definitely the right approach to take. Stamford on Tuesday has the potential to be tricky - they lost just once in their last seven at home, and are deep in a relegation fight, so badly need points. I still think this title race will go right to the wire.

Darlo Pete, I feel we can be champs, I'm not ordering the champagne yet, I want to be four points in front with one game to play before putting my order in!!!

Looking back since I started doing this posting this season beginning Jan 30th, it seems Blyth has had chances to maintain a big points lead while the number of played games went down, but they've been dropping points at a bad time while the Quakers have pretty much been taking care of business every week. This was the table from the first posting.

The top 9 in the Evo-stick Premier League, Sat Jan 30th 2016
..................... Pd ..W D L...W D L...F..A.....GD...Pts
1. Blyth ......... 28.. 9 2 2. 11 1 3.. 55 27.. 28.. 63

3. Salford....... 28.. 5 5 4. 11 1 2.. 52 29.. 23 ..54
4. Ashton....... 27 10 2 3... 5 4 3.. 58 34.. 24.. 51
5. Barwell....... 31.. 8 1 6... 8 2 6.. 58 50.. 08.. 51
6. Darlington.. 24.. 7 2 2... 8 2 3.. 50 24.. 26.. 49
7. Nantwich.... 30.. 8 4 3... 5 5 5.. 67 43.. 24.. 48
8. Stourbridge. 27.. 6 3 3... 8 2 5.. 55 43.. 12.. 47
9. Rushall....... 28.. 7 5 4... 5 4 3.. 50 33.. 17.. 45

Today it's
The Top 9 in the Evo-stick Premier League, Saturday March 12th 2016
................... Pd ..W D L...W D L...F..A.....GD...Pts
1. Blyth ....... 37. 12 2 4. 13 1 5.. 69 34.. 35.. 78
2. Darlington. 33. 11 3 2. 11 2 4.. 73 33.. 40.. 71
3. Salford..... 37... 9 5 5. 12 1 5.. 75 45.. 30.. 69
4. Workington 36. 11 5 2... 9 4 5.. 62 38.. 24.. 69
5. Stourbridge 34. 11 4 3... 9 2 5.. 70 48.. 22.. 66
6. Barwell...... 37. 12 1 6... 9 2 7.. 70 54.. 16.. 66
7. Ashton...... 34. 12 2 4... 7 5 4.. 71 41.. 30.. 64
8. Rushall...... 34... 8 5 5... 8 4 4.. 61 42.. 19.. 57
9. Nantwich... 32... 9 4 3... 5 6 5.. 71 44.. 27.. 52

So the Top 9 in 6 weeks have compiled the following
................... Pd ..W D L...W D L...F..A.....GD...Pts
1. Blyth ......... 9.. 3 0 2... 2 0 2.. 14 07.. 07.. 15
2. Workington. 8.. 3 1 0... 1 1 2.. 13 08.. 05.. 14
3. Salford....... 9.. 4 0 1... 1 0 3.. 23 16.. 07 ..15
4. Ashton....... 7.. 2 0 1... 2 1 1.. 13 07.. 06.. 13
5. Barwell....... 6.. 4 0 0... 1 0 1.. 12 04.. 08.. 15
6. Darlington.. 9.. 4 1 0... 3 0 1.. 23 09.. 14.. 22
7. Nantwich.... 2.. 1 0 0... 0 1 0.. 04 01.. 03.. 04
8. Stourbridge. 7.. 5 1 0... 1 0 0.. 15 05.. 10.. 19
9. Rushall....... 6.. 1 0 1... 3 0 1.. 11 09.. 02.. 12

There has not been the same quality of opponents played by every team, or the same numbers of games, so comparisons are difficult, however six teams (including Blyth, Salford, Workington and Barwell) have gained 12-15 points. Those six teams have essentially stayed in the same relative position compared to each other. The three teams that have made the most significant moves, Nantwich 4 points from just 2 games due to bad weather and cup runs have dropped significantly from the Top 6, and then there are Stourbridge 19 points from 7 games (6-1-0), and Darlington 22 points from 9 games (7-1-1), that have moved up.

A comparison with Darlington and Blyth to show how with still 4 games in hand we gained 7 points to turn a 14 point deficit into a 7 point deficit. Blyth losing 3 off the last 5 played has let their grip on the championship weaken.

Yes, today went about as well as we could have hoped for.
I worry about Rushall and Nantwich, they are unknown to us.

Let's take care of Stamford first, and think about the next opponent after that.

No midweek game for Blyth, so the potential to shrink the gap to 4 points is available.
Next Saturday, the unknown Rushall at H.P., Blyth should be able to handle Matlock. This race is getting very exciting.

Easter coming and tis the time for counting chickens.

Admirable work done here - keep it up.

Title fever building up right up now, so expect even more "old faces" at home and away games.

The club could do with selling multi-match tickets now to avoid lock outs of the regular home fans at the last few games.

Lets hope Darlo play well AND have a fair share of the luck with pitches, officials, illnesses, injuries and suspensions

I'm less worried about Nantwich... good attack - if we let them attack us - but I think we will do well against them. I wouldn't be disappointed with a draw down at their place a week on Tuesday, but I'm hopeful of a ruthless win.

Unless we have a slump, I can't see our competition for top spot, being anybody but Blyth.

Blyth 8/11
Darlington 11/10
Salford 20/1

And so there were two it would seem. Blyth still edging it though. Be interesting to see what happens if close the gap this week.

If we win on Tuesday, then I'm sure we'll be the new favourites.

I donlt think the 11/10 will be available for very long even taking into account Blyth's easy schedule.

Its looking good for us, No doubt about that. I disagree with Blyth (or anyone) having an easy schedule though. The one thing I have noticed since leaving the northern league behind is there is rarely an easy game. Even the teams struggling have a bit of resilience about them and decent organisation as a minimum and recent results against Blyth have proved that.
While its difficult not to get carried away with our chances of winning this league at our first attempt, Which would be a remarkable achievement, There will for sure be more ups and downs for us by the end of this season. In saying that, Would I have took being in this position after drawing 2-2 v Whitby at home in January? Absolutely. Cant wait for this next few weeks, Come on Darlo!
