Re: The better we get the less people watch
A lot of people have work, kids and other priorities on night matches.
Not to mention travelling to Bishop.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
A match on a cold night in February against mid-table opposition was never likely to draw big crowds unfortunately.
And the Bishop factor will also put people off. It's one thing driving up to Blackwell on a night for a game. It's another driving out to Bishop.

Agreed but those considerations have been there since we moved there. Has it ever been that low?AndyPark wrote:A lot of people have work, kids and other priorities on night matches.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
I'm sure we had one in the 600s in our first season in D1N.
I think our crowds are holding up reasonably well. Hopefully what looks to be another exciting end to a season should see them creep up over the coming weeks and months.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
Id question people who consider the opposition a pull factor in this league. A plumber from manchester or a postman from liverpool.
I agree it seems low. Saturday will be interesting.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
We are getting very similar crowds to what we got in the winter last 2 seasons.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
I thought it felt very quiet on the way into the ground and it felt quiet once we kicked off but no surprise really when it was cold, windy, midweek and a full premier league schedule on the telly.
A guy came along with my dad last night, his first game at HP and i'm not sure he'll be rushing back to be honest.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
As others have said, there are lots of reasons for crowds to be down in a winter midweek night game.
In addition to the reasons given by others, after the recent run of postponements and constant weather warnings, I suspect a lot of people thought the game may be in doubt and had made other arrangements before they learned game was on.
857 is still I am sure the highest step 3 crowd of the night, probably by some distance.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
having a prem game on sky wont have helped, it was cold, people are more likely to be at work etc.......saturday should be 1000+
Re: The better we get the less people watch
Not to forget 3 home games in 8 days means people may pick and choose which they go to, more so if money is tight post Xmas.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
I'm not overly concerned - I remember back in the late 70's / early 80's - in the fourth division - we'd sometimes only break the 1000 barrier. and am sure that would be on a saturday and of course in darlo...

Re: The better we get the less people watch
We've had worse crowds.
Darlington v Hebburn attracted 789.
Darlington v Wakefield attracted 697
Darlington v Harrogate RA attracted 768.
Darlington v Ossett Albion attracted 788.
Darlington v Brighouse attracted 842 (Saturday)
857 was relatively good given the PL games & cold weather. Hoping for a 1,000+ crowd on Saturday.

Re: The better we get the less people watch
You lose about 20-25 % on a night game. Not that bad but the point is not great for a team near the top.
Re: The better we get the less people watch
I was definitely watching a little bit more - albeit marginally - when we were playing better on Tuesday night, so you can knock at least one off that number.bigrichiet wrote:857!!!!!
That might be partly down to Sean Gregan's head being less of an obstruction in the second half, mind.
