A real shame but clearly Galbraith gets the nod over him, be sorry to see him go.

He is an excellent player and a real shame if we loose him, it is just very hard for a club our size to keep such quality in back up (be that Galbraith or Watson).

Any idea at who's choice. Watson's or the clubs?

I like Watson - I think he's a very good player. However, I also think that Galbraith is a better player, so it's not overly surprising that it's come to this. He'll make a very good signing for someone - I hope he doesn't drop back into the northern league as he's far too good for that level.

Like everyone, I'm a fan of Watson. Solid defensively, quick, good to have around the place, popular with fans and team mates alike. However, if I were picking the team I'd have Galbraith in ahead of him, another excellent player.

Good luck, one of those few players who will be genuinely missed by everyone around the place.

Disappointing news. From what I have seen Watson is the best full back at the club - albeit a view clearly not shared by Gray. Full back is a specialist position and if he goes, what are the chances of getting somebody in at his level? I suppose at 28/29 you want to be playing every week and when you come back into the side, play well, only to be dropped, it must be very frustrating. He deserved to be first choice IMO. I hope he finds a club at this level.

Frustrating that we have two excellent left-backs, yet right-back has been a bit of a problem position ever since Harrison left the club.

Would agree with that.

I would love to keep him but I guess two reasons why he is leaving, 1 he wants to play week in/week out (Galbraith/Thompson on the left hand side most often deny this) and 2 we probably need to use the budget in other areas like so many were saying we needed strengthen up front with Gaskell (Also FA Cup loss will/can effect our budget).

Good player but with the RB constantly under question Gray will play a larger/physical player in the LB position and I understand the reasoning to keep the defence strong.

Watson and Galbraith are fairly similar players, but I'd give the edge to Galbraith with his deliveries at set pieces.

I'm pretty sure it's come from Watson given his comments when he was out of the team recently. It's such a tough job for Gray to keep everyone happy and yet still have adequate backup.

I do think Watson has been given a bit of a raw deal - he was brought back in when Galbraith was injured when the defence was all over the place with two small attacking full-backs. Now we have a much more solid base with Hunter at RB it's a shame that Watson wasn't continued with.

It'll be a huge shame to see him go.

Its a shame but doesnt come as a shock after Watsons recent comments about pondering leaving to find more game time. Its unfortunate for the Ian that we have another very good left back in Terry Galbraith, Personally id play Terry, Watson at most clubs would find himself the undoubted first choice

I don't agree. I think they are wildly different. Watson is more athletic and rather like a wing back. Galbraith is a more cultured footballer but perhaps less mobile. Both very good players but surely not similar?

Gutted but no surprised, Terry is definitely the better player but Watson is too good to be sat on the bench every week. In the future Scott can cover at left back if needed so no need to bring another left back in.

it's interesting to see opinion on here.

I always thought that positionally and technically that Watson was better than Galbraith. Galbraith was stronger, taller and had a more dangerous delivery from dead ball situations.

Preferred Watson as a LB over Galbraith but I don't see as many games on many on here so I am getting less disappointed by this the more I hear that people favour Galbraith.

I honestly thought that Watson was the catalyst for our promotion last season, until he came in we didn't look all that healthy at left back - although if I remember rightly was Galbraith still struggling with shin splints at that time?

Would take Watson as full back over Galbraith - i think Galbraith is a better midfielder than he is full back. Watson's been very unlucky to come into a defence that wasn't quite at it, play well and be dropped just when White was shuffled back into centre-half. Tough on the kid.

I'm very much in the Watson camp for the LB position. I feel he is the more natural player in the position and I'm gutted about this.

Couldn't agree more Lo. Terry seems to lack that yard of pace when he pushes up. Then it looks like he needs to hail a cab to get back putting pressure on the rest of the defence. Set pieces Terry was better in years past, cant be certain that he has notched from one this season, although I only see home games
Sad to see Watson go, would be one of the first few on the team sheet for me. Defends and has pace to get back

Very disappointing news, especially as both players can play in alternative roles.

Pretty sure the Galbraith shin splints was the season before, our first out of the NL. Totally agree with the signing changing our season though, we were struggling somewhat and the signing looked to give us a lot more balance and we went on a great winning run.

I guess I was trying to work out why we looked so unbalanced pre-Watson as I can only assume it was Scott/Galbraith playing there.

Disappointed with this. Firmly in the Watson camp. Certain he was the better full back. Either way leaves us short of cover. Scott struggles when playing there

Galbraith's delivery from set pieces is superb, as good as any I've seen at this level. He's also good in the air and that adds considerably when we're defending set pieces. Those attributes give him the edge although I do agree that Watson is a class act and it will be sad to see him go. I always felt that Watson could have done a decent enough job at right back when required as he usually seems quite comfortable with the ball on his other foot.
Truth is I would have liked to have seen both of them in our side but it seems that just wasn't going to happen.

Disappointed as for me Watson is (was) the best left back at the club. Add to that the fact he is fit as a butcher's dog, whereas Terry is injury prone. What I find hard to understand a little, is that with such a small squad we have, it would not be long before someone gets injured and MG would have to reshuffle anyhow so Watson may have soon found himself back in the team. Having said that, I can understand his frustration and good luck to him, like I said a loss as far as I am concerned.
