"Our Alan Ogley"
"Our Alan Ogley"
... apologies to you young uns out there but I was interested to see Alan Ogley (Ogley Ogley (Ogley ... Oi Oi Oi) .... Presenting Blyth Spartans with their August team of the month award last Saturday (see link).
He was pretty iconic in his latter days as a goalie with us. Let's hope he gets the chance to present us with a similar award (or two) in the future months, so that some of us oldies can chant our famous tin shed goalie anthem at him.
Wow how he has aged ..... thats what keeping goal for Darlo in them days did to you ...

Re: "Our Alan Ogley"
Alan Ogley was the first keeper I can remember, when I started watching them in the mid 70's.
Re: "Our Alan Ogley"
On the theme of "the first goalkeeper I can remember" , is there anyone else who can remember Billy Dunn ? He was in the days when goalies wore green knitted jerseys and a cloth cap . Maybe I was too young as an eleven year old to be much of a judge of these things but I have always thought he was one of our really good keepers .

On the theme of "the first goalkeeper I can remember thinking was good, when he was actually s***", I always thought that kicking aside, Mark Samways was pretty decent.quakerfan wrote:On the theme of "the first goalkeeper I can remember" , is there anyone else who can remember Billy Dunn ? We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Paul Newell was the first I remember. I also seem to remember a stage where it felt like instead of having a keeper of our own we just borrowed them from Preston - there was probably more to it but I was too young.

We did a vote on this site a year ago and Tony Moor got the accolade as our best ever keeper; somebody reminded us that he regularly caught crosses with one hand.

Re: "Our Alan Ogley"
Ogleys save at Hillsborough in the cup replay against Sheffield Wednesday was every bit as good as Bank's infamous save against Brazil in the world cup. I even remember Eric Young scoring the winning penalty in the shoot out and then some fat thugs trying to climb into the stand to let us know what they thought about that.
Alan is a Barnsley lad and his family were coal merchants also I think his son played for Aldershot.

Alan Ogley also played some games in Citys 67/68 League Championship winning side, would have played more if not for Harry Dowd.

My first keeper was Tony Moor. The best display by a keeper at Feethams that I remember was Andy Collett v Pools in the 1-1 draw in March 2001

Many an away fan would say "You always get a good keeper in a bad side",
