FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round Draw - Mon 24th Aug
Re: FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round Draw - Mon 24th Aug
Hopefully it'll be a repeat of the scoreline when last we met in the FA cup. Wonder what Gavin Warboys is up to these days?!

You played Spenny on the Sat and we played Blyth on the Sunday, I would guess it would be similar this time around and we would move to the Sunday.LLB wrote:Interesting. Exactly the same situation as last season at this stage of the competition - IF we overcome Jarrow we are both at Home. Probably a Saturday/Sunday job as i doubt any of our potential opponents (Congleton or Handsworth Parramore for us) will agree to a Friday night treck!

Last time we played them 1994. Wow makes me feel old.
If im not mistaken we went an early goal down and the players seemed to be getting changed in a school to the left of us.
Seems Worboys scored, who else? Im trying to picture that team and can't quite get my head around it.

Just buzzing we are back in it. Feels like we are gradually getting back to the level we should be.
Re: FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round Draw - Mon 24th Aug
It was of course on Hyde's plastic pitch, we won 3-1 with Worboys getting 2, and possible Slaven with the other. Pretty sure the wall/advertising hoarding came down when we scored and charged forward.BaronsCourtQuaker wrote:Last time we played them 1994. Wow makes me feel old.

As for who else played I'm not 100% sure but it'll have been when Hodgy/Platt were in charge so Pollitt, Gregan, Crosby et al

I am sure that they had the last old type artificial pitch and that the FA banned
them (plastic pitches that is) for FA cup ties the following season.
I seem to remember it being said that Darlo were the last team to win an FA cup tie on thet type of pitch

Below taken from Wiki
The ground held the last non-qualifying FA Cup game on an artificial surface when Hyde faced Darlington in the 1st Round Proper of the 1994–95 FA Cup.
Team was
Darlington: Pollitt, Appleby, Himsworth, Banks, Crosby, Gegan, Slaven, Painter, Gaughan, Olsson, Warboys. Subs: Reed, Chapman, Collier.
Slaven scored to equalise and then a quick fire Warboys double to seal the victory.

I remember watching MOTD that night as we were top billing and opened the show! A 0-0 draw v Bury at Kingsway when i think they were top of the 3rd Div as it was then. It was the last time we got to the 1st Round proper also, we are certainly due another cup run!super_les_mcjannet wrote:Below taken from Wiki

Horriffic day weather wise and no way HP would of survived a pitch inspection. Remember being drenched right through!

Re: FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round Draw - Mon 24th Aug
The pitch definitely was horrible. I seem to recall there was at least one hole worn into the surface. I also remember some Darlo fans giving the team some stick when they went a goal down and Mike Pollitt reacting quite badly and telling the fans the behind his goal to "F**k Off!". The mood improved when old Bernie 'Concrete Legs' Slaven equalised.Mr_Tibbs wrote:And here it is - the pitch looked horrible...

I'm pretty sure Alan Murray was manager when we won at Hyde in cup. It was season before Hodgy took over.
Re: FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round Draw - Mon 24th Aug
Yes Andrew you're right. I had it in my head that Hodgy did a full season before walking out midway into the next, when in fact he walked after 4 monthsAndrew Wilkinson wrote:I'm pretty sure Alan Murray was manager when we won at Hyde in cup. It was season before Hodgy took over.

Older fans may recall 15th October 1887. FA Cup First Round. Preston North End 26 Hyde 0. Still the highest margin in English first class football.

We had a good following at Hyde for that FA Cup game. I think there was some trouble that day, probably after the game, but not sure.
