Harrogate RA v Darlington FC

Post by poppyfield » Sat Jul 25, 2015 10:11 am

Going down for this one, we might see a new RB on trial. With season only a few weeks away , it will be interesting to see the starting 11 today.

Think may be made up of a few more trialists. Think the team that will start the first game of the season may start against York on Monday night

Yep, I think we'll see a few more trialists today and possibly a few against York. Then a lot more settled 11 against Whitby, Bishop Auckland & Spennymoor.

Wilson Kneeshaw is set to play again for Gateshead today, after which Crosby is set to make a decision on him.

Kneeshaw's just put Gateshead 4-3 up against Hartlepool.

Mixed feelings there!

Wasn't at the game today but by the line-ups number 2 was Alex Kitchen, ex Newcastle Academy defender. Tom McNamee also started in defence, ex Sunderland Academy. Bradley Staunch was on the bench who is the full back that played 2nd half against Durham

I'd imagine that is quite an unusual injury for a player. Anybody how long he's likely to be out?

2-3 weeks in a sling normally if it's a partial dislocation followed by physiotherapy according to T'internet

I reckon, can't be too many players who's first name is Wilson.

Heard him say 2 weeks when he came back in the ground. To be honest with you, the injury was from him putting his arm out to stop a fall from what i thought to be a snidey push. Accident yes, but he should not of been pushed.

The 2nd half performance was really good but largely because of our central midfield combo in Portas and Turnbull who for me are the best in the league we are heading. It is that makes me think we must be favourites to take this league. The first half was messy and we were cut open defensively far too easily.

I thought the lad who came on right back in the 2nd half showed a lot of promise but I don't know his name. Hunter and Cartman also did very well.

if there is one alarm bell it is probably the penalty taking situation. I may have misread things but it seems to me we do miss a higher than average percentage.

Decent performance and workout today, I think bringing on Nowakowski as a striker in the 2nd half highlights we are short up front currently.

Right back position when Brown goes is an ongoing question, thought Kitchen (1s half) didn't stand out, Staunch (2nd half) done ok and certainly worth a further look. Can Burgess fill in at RB with White and Hunter at CB.

Turnbull and Portas were a dominating CM pairing both looked a cut above today. Cartman looked very sharp today whilst Dowson was his normal self.

Youhill will be out for 2/3 weeks it seems after dislocating his elbow.

Looking at our line-ups today, the team that started the second half is the team I'd expect to see us line-up with against Buxton, with obviously the possibility of RB changing and Armstrong coming in.

Staunch had a good half against Durham, and it sounded like he had another good one today.

Our forwards are an interesting one. Purewal is probably not going to be back until September/October but Armstrong is now back in full-training and I expect him to be involved from the Whitby friendly onwards all being well. However, we have seen what happens when injuries hit (Dowson & Purewal were out for significant periods last season) and Gray is evidently looking to strengthen our forwards based on recent trialists. Kneeshaw looks quite likely to sign for Gateshead judging from Crosby's interview.

Dan Maguire is rumoured to be struggling with the commute to Halifax after joining them from Blyth in May. He's not been involved in training and pre-season friendlies from what I've read. I think that Gray will be monitoring it. Question marks over finance but we are set to receive fees for Hatch & Brown.

I thought the throw ins that Kitchen took in the first half were very useful, but that isn't enough to sign him up as a player on for. If MG and co. feel they can get more out of him and develop him into a much improved player he may well be worth another look though.

Would definitely agree about Staunch, who fitted well into the back four alongside Burgess, Hunter and Galbraith. By far the better of the two full backs we saw today.

Id expect Terry Galbraith to start at left back in the new season, that'll sort penalties out, misses the odd one but overall is very good from the spot
