Martin Gray
Well Gray has been in charge for 3 years now, when was the last time we had a manager in charge for longer? I assume it's either Penney or Hodgy, can someone enlighten me?

Re: Martin Gray
Being pedantic, it's not 3 years yet. He reaches that milestone on Thursday.
But he's already our longest-serving manager this century.
Hodgie's 3rd coming (Oct 03 to Sept 06) was 2 years 11 months.
Hodgie's 2nd spell in charge (1996-2000) was the last time anyone reached 3 years in charge.
Penney was 2 years 8 months.
But he's already our longest-serving manager this century.

Thanks for that and I stand corrected. I can see Gray being in charge with us for a few more years yet.Darlogramps wrote:Being pedantic, it's not 3 years yet. He reaches that milestone on Thursday.

Seeing as it's a sunny Saturday .... LEAGUE ONLY .....
2012 - 13 ... Won 40 ... Drawn 2 ... Lost 4 ... GF 145 ... GA 35 ... Pts 122 .. GD + 110
2013 - 14 ... Won 28 ... Drawn 6 ... Lost 8 ... GF 101 ... GA 37 ... Pts 90 .... GD + 64
2014 - 15 ... Won 28 ... Drawn 7 ... Lost 7 ... GF 99 ..... GA 37 ... Pts 91 .... GD + 62
Total Played ... 130
Won 96 ... Drawn ... 15 ... Lost 19 ... GF 345 ... GA ... 109 ... Pts 303 ... GD + 236
Makes you realise what a cake walk the northern league actually was ... and the gulf between that league and the Evostik North ...

Re: Martin Gray
Apart from the odd time he loses his cool M.G is doing a great job - and the stability we now have in the management structure makes things so much better than "the old days" - whereby you could wake up one morning to discover the club has gone into admin, or a manager has left.
Martin Gray has been integral to making the whole thing work

I honestly don't mind that Gray loses his cool sometimes.theoriginalfatcat wrote:Apart from the odd time he loses his cool M.G is doing a great job
Give me an animated manager any day of the week, compared to the many stand silent with folded arms merchants that we've had over the years.
We're very lucky to have him, I actually find it quite amazing that he's always wanted the Darlo job, and I actually believe him when he says he's not going anywhere else.

I guess it shows his passion for the club.Quakerz wrote:I honestly don't mind that Gray loses his cool sometimes.theoriginalfatcat wrote:Apart from the odd time he loses his cool M.G is doing a great job

Re: Martin Gray
Making MG our most successful manager in terms of win percentage in league games (73.8%)? I assume Brian L is second - 48 wins in 88 games in Conf and Div 4 (54.5%), not including the games he was in charge for at the back end of 88/89 but I shouldn't think there were too many wins to boost his average.AIDO wrote:Total Played ... 130

I'm not fussed either way, so long as we get wins.Quakerz wrote:I honestly don't mind that Gray loses his cool sometimes.theoriginalfatcat wrote:Apart from the odd time he loses his cool M.G is doing a great job

Just because you leap around on the touchline doesn't make you any more or less passionate.
Re: Martin Gray
Believe me I know him better than most on here and theres nobody more passionate about DFC than him. He eats, sleeps and breathes the football club trying to make it better everyday..theoriginalfatcat wrote: We're very lucky to have him, I actually find it quite amazing that he's always wanted the Darlo job, and I actually believe him when he says he's not going anywhere else.
Also don't underestimate the work Brian Atkinson does behind the scenes and in the dressing room.
Re: Martin Gray
Gray has learned his lesson from his earlier suspensions and the continued criticism is a little harsh.

Re: Martin Gray
You always need to learn from your mistakes. Gray seems to now have the balance about right.
Re: Martin Gray
seriously we have no idea. I expect Gray to pick up a few more suspensions in the next few years and it will happen in games where we get frustrated and get a red card or two.
When that happens this place will go mental. He will get banned then when he comes back we will win some easy games and everyone will say he has learned his lesson.
It is part and parcel with him. Rough with smooth really - would I prefer that we always maintained discipline, yes but do I also accept that on most occasions it is down to the competitiveness of our players and their will to win that is the underlying driver - and if we lost that we would be losing a lot more!

Re: Martin Gray
He built up a great squad from the on-set and also quickly removed newcomers that didn't fit in with the squad ethos.
He's managed to keep the key players in our squad at the club and cleared out journeymen sharpish, which is very unusual compared to recent decades.
A manager that obviously cares, rather than a manager that only provides "PR pleasing spin" is also a bonus.

MG Performance thus far is little short of remarkable: We should not forget the contribution of those working tirelessly behind the scenes: David Mills, and Martin Jesper, perhaps our biggest asset? he certainly adds gravitas and not a little skill and professionalism to the club.
