Re: Busy pre-season ahead
I'd imagine that a few of those fixtures will be fulfilled by our junior team, with a few fringe players.
Re: Busy pre-season ahead
Yeah with a packed pre season each game is going to be about rotation. We've York City at home to fit in too. Redcar game is against Athletic

Great line-up of games. We'll certainly be ready to get going after those!

Something odd is going on.
The Echo article has now been deleted, the Sunderland game's been removed from the above list and the Sunderland thread also deleted.
Has there been an embargo broken?

Let's leave it at that gramps and pretend we saw nothing

25 July looks like a good test.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.
Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Don't worry, I'm sure it'll come out negative.Spyman wrote:25 July looks like a good test.

I know it is a regular feature, but why are we playing Whitby this season?
Liking the look of some of these. South Shields will be the first game back at Filtrona. Also, Harrogate Town will be good. As will Spenny.

I find it strange as well. You usually don't play teams from the same league in pre-season. I can only assume Whitby want the cash from our fans that travel and Darlo want to see how we measure up against a mid table team from last season.dickdarlington wrote:I know it is a regular feature, but why are we playing Whitby this season?

I thought our first season in the Northern league we played a few Northern league clubs in pre-season...could be wrong like.Darlo_Pete wrote:I find it strange as well. Lots of Premier league clubs play in pre-season tournaments against other premier clubs.
Also think it's a bit cynical to suggest that it's about Whitby wanting oor cash
No-one will be able to judge a team or learn a lot from a pre-season friendly. It will be all about getting match fitness.

I'm quite surprised and shocked to see that RA haven't been included in our pre-season itinerary. A historical fixture that I hope isn't being jettisoned. We owe them a lot.

You could say the same about playing Newton Aycliffe, as we've played them a few times over recent years.

In what way do we owe them anything?princes town wrote:I'm quite surprised and shocked to see that RA haven't been included in our pre-season itinerary. A historical fixture that I hope isn't being jettisoned. We owe them a lot.

I could be over-playing this but I recollect they were a significant part of our story after administration. One of the RA supporters was a big force in the media campaign (Bushead or something) It seems to have been a staple fixture for us pre-season and I just thought it would have been a nice connection. They've also hosted various fund-raising events - player/fan matches. and even allowed us to sell merchandise there.Darlogramps wrote:In what way do we owe them anything?princes town wrote:I'm quite surprised and shocked to see that RA haven't been included in our pre-season itinerary. Pretty sure he's also a Darlo fan. Was Bushead not the fan who laid down his scarf outside the Arena on the Wednesday the club came back from the dead?princes town wrote:I could be over-playing this but I recollect they were a significant part of our story after administration. We are not obliged to play anyone in pre-season. There's no such thing as a staple tie (unless it's Whitby, for some reason).princes town wrote: It seems to have been a staple fixture for us pre-season and I just thought it would have been a nice connection.
We'll play them in future pre-seasons, so I really don't think it's a big deal this time around.
You calling it a historical fixture is massively over-playing it. I don't see how a non-competitive game where, invariably we send a reserve or youth team down can be described as "historical."
So have other clubs and organisations. What makes RA so special?princes town wrote: They've also hosted various fund-raising events - player/fan matches. and even allowed us to sell merchandise there.
I still don't see how we "owe RA a lot." Yeah they've given us a hand on occasions, but that doesn't mean we owe them forever.

I tend to agree to a point..We do need to keep the links with those that helped us when we needed it....BUT, we have to draw a line somewhere.. Perhaps next season we play them again...
It does not have to be every season from now and forever..

Fair enough lads you've convinced me that it doesn't have to a commitment every season.
Re: Busy pre-season ahead
I was part of the organisation for a fundraising game for uncovered that involved Alan White, Craig liddle and Neil Maddison. The RA were fantastic in their support during this time. I think those who helped should be helped if possible.

We just don't have to do it every pre-season.
Nor because they gave us support does it mean we're forever in their debt.

I can confirm Bushead is a big Darlo & RA fan.

Friendlies were arranged as part of transfer deals, but some are traditional, or from where we have had help in the past.Darlo_Pete wrote:I find it strange as well.
