TEAM WHO PLAYED AGAINST CHELSEA ~ WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
TEAM WHO PLAYED AGAINST CHELSEA ~ WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Given the sad news of the death of Ken Furphy, what do we know about the other members of that team?
I know Ron Greener is still coming to watch Darlo at Heritage Park.
He is the full list of players for those game(s)
1. Joe Turner
2. Len Green
3. Brian Henderson
4. Bill Rutherford
5. Ron Greener
6. Ken Furphy
7. Keith Morton (Dave Carr in replay)
8. Jim Milner
9. Ron Harbertson
10. Harry Bell
11. Dave Carr (Keith Morton in replay)

Did Brian Henderson pass away some time ago? Believe he was involved in the half time crossbar challenge at Feethams, hitting it twice

Yes he did. Ray Simpson and I interviewed Brian and Ron Greener at Ron's house for the Farewell to Feethams book. Brian was in better health than Ron at the time, but has since passed away.

I remember that, I don't recall him hitting the bar but I do remember him slipping over as he took one, possibly getting hurt.QuakerPete wrote:Did Brian Henderson pass away some time ago? Believe he was involved in the half time crossbar challenge at Feethams, hitting it twice
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Len Green plays 5s & 3s for Middleton St George Cricket Club.
I'm always releived when I get drawn to play someone else.
After all, how can you beat a legend !!

Ken Furphy managed Blackburn when I was over that way. Early 70s. Decent manager. Sad to hear the news.

As kids we would play in the South Park every Saturday up until it was time to go to the match if we were at home. Occasionally Brian Henderson would wander through and have a brief impromptu kick about. Never forget that dreadful night that ended his career with a broken leg against Stockport.
