Communicatons re pitch inspections!

Post by Rufusuk » Sat Jan 17, 2015 3:59 pm

"THE GAME HAS PASSED A PITCH INPSECTION" is a completely different message to "THE PITCH SHOULD BE OK, BUT WE'LL TAKE ANOTHER LOOK IN 3 - 4 HOURS".

I've just travelled 60 miles there and 60 miles back based on the earlier news that :-
"THE GAME HAS PASSED A PITCH INPSECTION"!

No 'hint' to check later!

Not good enough!

It's a learning curve and hopefully lessons have been learned. I'm not completely sure who from Darlo's side is there to make sure the pitch is in a playable state.

It needs to be managed in the days leading up to the game where possible rather than waiting until the morning of the match. It's a pitfall of being part-time I guess but it's going to cost us if we're not careful.

Would covers have helped?

Official twitter page. "It's Matchday. Game ON. See you there."
The situation was that we had until 1pm to sort the pitch out

In hindsight we would have been better trying to get the water off the pitch yesterday by whatever means then covering it. If the covers were removed this morning the cold temperatures would have firmed the ground up.

We may have then stood a chance.

As mentioned above, not sure who is responsible these days as in the past the club secretary Colin Galloway always used to make sure that there were plans in place to get the pitch in a fit state. Seems these days it's left to the Bishop groundsman to prep the pitch.

Would it not be worth having Thommo (the ex groundsman) on standby in the days leading up to the game making sure that everything possible is done to get the pitch fit?!

Have to admit, that after the earlier inspection I presumed the game would go ahead. Luckily I checked on here before setting off and so saved myself another wasted trip. Did anybody actually get to Bishop expecting the game to be going ahead?

Plenty were at the ground, stewards, players, match officials, the directors, hospitality, the shop, and probably plenty more to numerous to mention

Not exactly to the ground but I work in Jarrow and took a 1/2 day holiday (12 hour shift) to watch the game. Left work at 12.45 and the match was on. Got home to Shildon at 1.20 and it was off. Could have saved that holiday for later in the season. :x
