Wins in front of biggest home crowd in that season?

Post by Rufusuk » Sat Dec 06, 2014 1:35 pm

Traditionally we tend to lose a home league match whenever we play in front of our biggest crowd of the season.
The recent victory against Spennymoor did coincide (so far) with the biggest crowd.

When was the last time we won a league match in front of our biggest crowd for that season?

What was our record like at the Arena?
What was our record like at Feethams?

When we won the Northern League, or the match after - I can't remember which one had a crowd of 1,990 odd, and which one was 2,001, but we won both.

Team Northumbria was about 1,986 and Guisborough was 2,001 if my medication riddled brain remembers correctly

I pulled together all the matches at the Arena for which we had a significantly higher than average (for that particular season) attendance.

The first 6 big matches were pretty grim.

2011/12
28/01/2012 York City 2 2 6413 D
21/01/2012 Fleetwood 0 1 5638 L

2010/11
12/03/2011 Gateshead 3 2 4243 W

2009/10
10/08/09 Leeds United 0 1 4487 L

2007/08
10/05/08 Rochdale 2 1 8057 W
26/12/07 Rotherham 1 1 6965 D
09/10/07 Leeds United 0 1 7891 L

2006/07
05/05/07 Stockport 0 5 5184 L
25/03/07 Hartlepool 0 3 10121 L

2005/06
18/03/06 Carlisle United 0 5 8640 L

2004/05
26/03/05 Kidderminster 0 2 6972 L
26/12/04 Rochdale 0 3 7028 L

2003/04
16/08/03 Kidderminster 0 2 11600 L
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

First game of the season was a full house - 2004 saw Amar's brother set us on the way to our monster goal tally (and Amar himself scored the last).

But it goes down as a full house for Bishop as it was their home game

Interesting post that Makka Pakka.

I went to the Arena on Saturday to watch the Rugby and had mixed feelings. We did at one time have a good set of players out on that pitch, and as I was sat watching people kick an odd shaped ball about, my mind drifted off to Jason Kennedy's wonder goal against Rochdale and other such things.

Your post reminds me that there were a few"big" games at the Arena - I'd probably chosen to forget about the many we lost.

Was that the game on the Telly???

That was the first of 2 visits to the Arena for me, after that Leeds game, I vowed never to go back, I hated the place, although I went back in 2010 for a Friendly against Sunderland...

That night against Leeds I nearly had a Soccer AM 3rd Eye Moment, my mate described to me how I nearly rolled over the barrier at the front of the West Stand, I was absolutely drunk and cant remember it, that was the occasion I decided never to drink like that at football ever again, I got suspended from college for the rest of that week as I was still pissed the next morning :(
