Best Goal ?

Post by BaronsCourtQuaker » Sun Nov 09, 2014 12:32 pm

Just watched the highlights from yesterday and a super goal from Thommo. Which got me thinking, whats been the best goal you have seen darlo score? I mean best in terms of quality of goal not in terms of meaning in a match (ie Senior, Barnard, Coatsworth).

We scored a great goal last season with plenty of build up play and I recall Gabba's getting some beauties, but what are peoples best?

Two that spring immediately to mind.

Bannister: diving header away to Doncaster
Gabbiadini: hat-trick goal against Exeter at Feethams

Quite a few spring to mind, however ome in particular is Alun Armstrong when he bagged that hattrick. If I remember rightly it was featured on Match of the Day the very same night as well.

I remember Martin Smith getting a volley in the FA Cup (think it was against Lewes?)

I also vaguely recall Richard Hope scoring a cracking free kick for us when we were at Feethams...

I remember the Ron Ferguson goal, I think it was around 1976, also Pawel Abbott's top corner strike away to Brentford,Ritchie Foran also banging one in in that game as well

Pawel Abbott versus Grimsby at the Arena when we were 2-0 down and he almost single handedly dragged us back into the game and we won 3-2. Not sure whether it was the first or second, but I remember that being some goal.

Quite a few of Thommo's goals are right up there with the best.

Mitch Cook's belter away at Northampton from a cross by the real Super Les in the Div 4 Championship season was one I'll always remember.

Was there for Ron Ferguson's goal against Sheff Wed too - I seem to remember him saying after the game "I never miss from there"

Anyone else remember Colin Bland nearly scoring one on the volley from the half way line which the keeper (I can't remember which team) just managed to keep out? I think it hit the bar.

Martin Smith has to be in with a shout. So many going through my mind. But I keep picturing Jonjo Dickman (I think) with his bicycle kick against Cheltenham (I also think)

+1 for SoP v Mansfield. Not only did he absolutely hammer it from about 35 yards, but the build up was pretty good too. Watch it on the link below if you fancy - we first get the ball by our own corner flag.

Still the second best goal ever scored v Mansfield though. The other one was from about two yards out.

Hat-trick goal. The single goal which completes the hat-trick. The third goal of the three.

Any normal person of reasonable intelligence could see what Divas was saying. It's not difficult if you read the post properly.

Didn't think you'd need this explaining to you.

Neil WainWright v York
Julian Joachim v Stoke I remember being decent
Martin Smith v Lewes

Stephen Thompsons however was up there with Pawel Abbotts v Grimsby, simply had no right to chip the keeper from that range

Marco's run from the halfway line away at Orient straight from 2nd half kick off.
Danny Barbara's overhead kick (i think) away at Bury in the LDV-Simod-SherpaVan-Autoglass-Windscreens-Cup-Trophy
Gary Bennett's screamer at the Vic

Those are my personal favourites today.

Stuart Elliott in a League Cup game in 2000, I think it was against Forest, or maybe Bradford? Not sure he meant it either.

Martin Smith against Lewes.

Craig Russell's goal.

Aye, that was at Forest mate, late late winner - right over Dave Beasant's (who mustve been 52 even then) head.
