From what I have seen on Twitter it's 2-0 to spenny. Mcready scored and fisher scored a penalty

Well, it's currently 4-0 if you weren't already aware.

Re: Match thread v Spenny
Just looking at the lineup and thinking of Butch cassidy. "Who ARE those guys?"
Re: Match thread v Spenny
.... with all due respect to those lads, I was thinking the same. Good run out for them though. The attendance was 448 for a relatively meaningless DCC game. Meanwhile five leagues above, in an important league clash (albeit at the nether regions) the attendance was 947 .... ..... and another nail rammed in ...swadquaker wrote:Just looking at the lineup and thinking of Butch cassidy. Re: Match thread v Spenny
At least 4 of them have played 1st XI games this year for us or been on the bench so hardly unknowns, suppose the rest are unheard off if you don't follow the U18's games/results
Re: Match thread v Spenny
I'd forgotten about this game until I had a look on here tonight. A meaningless game, but hopefully those who played have learned something from the experience!
Re: Match thread v Spenny
Obviously disappointing to lose any game, but in the grand scheme of things the DCC probably wasn't one of the competitions that Martin was really looking to have a good run in this season.
Three points on Saturday is far more important to our future.

Re: Match thread v Spenny
Arguably a meaningless game that was made meaningful. It gave our young lads a run out in a senior competition, against a weakened but still decent opposition, with a half decent crowd.
The crowd there was still better than what most clubs in our division get in league games. That was after prior announcement that it would be the u18s.
If anyone has a NLZ account. I don't want to feed the troll (stipedtoga http://nonleaguezone.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=109111), but he seems to suggest the records showing that we were beat 4-0 should mean something. The records also show that we won the FA Trophy...I know which means more.

I like that the BBC report labels them as "League 2 strugglers".AIDO wrote:

"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Re: Match thread v Spenny
I don't think we can afford to be too fussy about any competition in my opinion.
Re: Match thread v Spenny
We can with only a squad of 15/16 players. If we had 22 contracted players plus experienced reserves then yes I'd agree

Re: Match thread v Spenny
Winning the DCC would bring no extra fans in, very little publicity, and very little money. Our first team participating in the DCC could impact on our league form through fixture congestion, and the potential to pick up injuries.princes town wrote:I don't think we can afford to be too fussy about any competition in my opinion.
I think Gray made the right call last night. Ainsley did exactly the same thing - ourselves and Spennymoor Town both played the fringe players. The difference is, our fringe players at the moment are the kids. If our fringe players were good enough to win the DCC then great, but I think it would be stupid to risk first team players in it.

I sometimes think Princes Town says things just to be different, irrespective of whether he believes it or not.

We were always going to get beat tonight but a good run out for the young lads.
