Players In/Players Out
Gray's post-match comments are certainly interesting, stating that some players will be coming in and others leaving.
I'm hoping that he's looking at a right-back and a centre midfielder to bring in. Harrison hasn't been replaced since he left and I felt we'd have done better without Robinson in centre mid today (no disrespect intended).
As for going out, you'd have to assume Fisher for obvious reasons. I wonder about the non-contracted Reed and Noble, or Robinson who would struggle if we signed a right-back and a centre midfielder.
Would like to see Gott back.
Thoughts?

Re: Players In/Players Out
Sounds like Gray is looking for lads who will battle, he mentioned Scott and Portas who do it, we all know Brown and White will.
I think at least 3 of the 13 playing today would be described as non battlers, it's about winners and we lack them currently.

Agree with that. Sometimes ex-academy lads come good (Mitchell), others don't (Edwards).super_les_mcjannet wrote:Sounds like Gray is looking for lads who will battle, he mentioned Scott and Portas who do it, we all know Brown and White will.

Will be interesting to see who comes in, can see them being players from the NL rather than released lads from academies.

I'm guessing there's been no progress with Weldon?

I wonder if Billingham Synth's Theo Furness is available? I know we made an enquiry for him last season.

Didn't he play for us last year in one of the cups and didn't stand out, however one game is not a fair time to judge.Darlo.For.Life wrote:I wonder if Billingham Synth's Theo Furness is available? I know we made an enquiry for him last season.
To get the best they generally cost money as normally contracted.

He played for us against Ossett Town in the Doodson Cup but not sure how well he played. He isn't on a contract at Billingham Synth.super_les_mcjannet wrote:Didn't he play for us last year in one of the cups and didn't stand out, however one game is not a fair time to judge.Darlo.For.Life wrote:I wonder if Billingham Synth's Theo Furness is available? Robinson looks like he's playing on roller skates lately.

Re: Players In/Players Out
It's back to the old thing about the available pool to pick from in our area. Noble is not the answer, Reed needs to step up to the plate more or he should go, Robinson just doesn't cut it in any of the positions he plays and, here goes, Hatch is another who flatters to deceive - hasn't added to the squad in my opinion. Always said that no-one in the team is indispensable . . . as long as you can find someone better. Over to you MG

An excellent analysis, although I'd add Fisher to the flatters to deceive list.QuakerPete wrote:It's back to the old thing about the available pool to pick from in our area. Re: Players In/Players Out
Fair play to Gray, he's never been scared to make changes when players aren't performing, and more often than not the changes are for the better. It's just a shame that it's necessary.
Robinson, Reed, Fisher and Noble can get lost for me and even if we can only bring 2 players in who are up to the job in this league it's a plus
In regards to Hatch, due to Armstrong's availability he's not been given a fair crack. If we're gonna play direct then why not have both Armstrong and Hatch playing?!

Agree with Divas, that's my 4 to ship out & I would give Hatch a start alongside Armstrong until Dowson & Purewal are fit (2 weeks I understand)
Weldon has another few weeks left as mentioned

Re: Players In/Players Out
Again I agree with Divas on the players who will leave.
But as keen as I am to see what Armstrong and Hatch would be like, it can't be for a full 90. I think if Hatch plays more than he is, it really risks him getting injured. So the plan seems to be for Hatch to come on with30 to play and mess up the defence. It's not a bad tactic. And it will work I'm certain of it.
It's frustrating as our defence is pretty mch settled. The midfield is as good as there too. It's just up front. And the fringe players who aren't cutting it.

I think that would be painful to watch from a mobility point of view!divas wrote:In regards to Hatch, due to Armstrong's availability he's not been given a fair crack. If we're gonna play direct then why not have both Armstrong and Hatch playing?!
I think we would have to play 2 wingers getting the crosses in if we were to go for Hatch/Armstrong up top.

Reed has the centre of the park covered, and Fisher can't stop scoring. So, we don't need Costa or Fabregas.

Reed had a decent game yesterday. I don't see why he's subject to a witch hunt.

Re: Players In/Players Out
Gott wasn't getting a game so left. Emms was work. Harrison has already been back and didn't impress so went again.
For you to insult me, I must first value your opinion.
Re: Players In/Players Out
I tend to agree with divas on this one. Reed and Robinson were awful yesterday. Reed is way too weak. I have no idea how he managed with the demands of the football league.
Re: Players In/Players Out
I'd release Fisher and Robinson. Robinson is a central defender and doesn't quite cut it for me. I'd give Noble a bit longer.

Re: Players In/Players Out
We need a rb and someone who sits in midfield, wins the ball, and gives the simple pass to players like Mitchell and portas.
Brown is doing a decent job at rb, but you can tell he isn't a natural. He doesn't provide us with enough width. I think with the players we have, a 433 is the best formation.
Rb White hunter Galbraith
Mitchell portas (sitting midfielder e.g someone like gott)
Dowson Armstrong Thompson
If everyone was on form, that would be our best team in my opinion. Obviously, getting the players in is a different matter, but if I was gray I'd be looking at those 2 positions to try and get players in. Who is available to leave is probably fairly obvious.

Re: Players In/Players Out
I think one of the main problems with Harrison was that he couldn't make mid-week matches, not even the big ones such as Curzon last season.
